This is the first ACC Weekly Honor of Murphy’s career and the third of the season for the Eagles
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College softball left fielder Annie Murphy has been named ACC Co-Player of the Week for her performance against UMass and Notre Dame last week, the conference announced Tuesday evening.
Â
The Washington, N.J. native led the Eagles last week with a .615 batting average, with eight hits including four doubles. The senior is now riding a 15-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 19 straight games. Murphy played an important role in the two wins over Norte Dame over the weekend, finishing five-for- five against the Irish who entered the weekend at second place in the Atlantic standings.
Â
Specifically, in the second game of the series versus the Irish, Murphy hit a two-out single in the fourth inning to cap off a three-run inning for the Eagles, powering them to a 6-4 victory over the Irish. In game three of the weekend, Murphy reached base with an RBI single in the first inning and she drew two walks throughout the remainder of the game. She reached base four times in total and scored a team-leading three runs, helping to secure a series win over Notre Dame with a 9-6 victory.
Â
With four doubles over the past week, Murphy is tied for first place in BC history with 39 career doubles. The outfielder also has 16 multi-hit games this season. With 206 career hits, Murphy is just one hit shy of third place on the all-time list.
Â
This is the first ACC weekly honor for Murphy in her career. The ACC award is the third for BC this season as freshman CC Cook was named ACC Player of the Week on March 27 and redshirt junior pitcher Allyson Frei was named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 17. The three weekly ACC honors is the most BC has ever received as a team in a single season.
Â
The Eagles (25-18, 11-6 ACC) host Harvard (20-13, 13-5 IVY) at the Harrington Athletics Village at Brighton Fields today, Tuesday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
