Gote and Haverhals are two-time captains
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College field hockey head coach Kelly Doton announced that rising seniors Ymke Rose Gote, Frederique Haverhals and Lucy Lytle will captain the 2018 team. Gote and Haverhals served as captains as juniors while this will be Lytle's first official leadership position.
Â
"This is one of the strongest leadership groups that I've been around since I started coaching," Doton said. "For Ymke and Frederique to get the honor of being named captain for the second straight year is remarkable. Lucy has always led by example and is one of our hardest workers on the team so it was no surprise to me her teammates voted for her. All three lead with our program's core values at the forefront at all times. They are eager to make their senior year the best in program history and I'm fortunate to have them as our 2018 captains."
Â
Gote, an Amstelveen, The Netherlands native, is a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Third-Team All-American selection, earning the honor in 2016 and 2017. She also collected NFHCA All-Northeast Region First-Team and All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second-Team accolades in the same years and was named to the All-ACC Academic Team as a junior. Starting every game at midfield in 2017, she was tied for second with five assists and scored two goals to record nine points.
Â
"Being voted captain with Frederique and Lucy is an honor. It shows that our teammates have confidence in us leading them through the 2018 season and we are so excited to do this together in our senior year," Gote said. "Looking at this past spring I think that everyone, and especially our freshmen, are improving so much on and off the field. I can't wait for the incoming class to come so that we can all work together toward a great 2018 season!"
Â
Haverhals, who hails from Warmond, The Netherlands, also earned NFHCA All-America Third-Team honors as a sophomore and junior. She was named to the All-Northeast Region First-Team and to the All-ACC Second-Team in 2016 and 2017 as well. She also collected All-ACC Academic Team honors in her junior campaign. Starting all 19 games at back for the Eagles, she was tied for second on the team with five assists and scored two goals to rack up nine points.
Â
"It's always an honor to be elected captain and a privilege to be able to lead the team," Haverhals said. "BC is a great place; we have an amazing staff and an incredible team. It has been a long spring and the team has been working incredibly hard. We have some great freshmen coming in so we're ready to get after it in August! I am excited for what's to come!"
Â
Lytle came to The Heights from Lake Forest, Ill. A two-time NFHCA All-Northeast Region Second-Team honoree, she also was named to the All-ACC Academic Team this past season. She started 17 games on the forward line, missing two games due to injury. She was third on the team with 12 points, tying for second with five goals.
Â
"I'm honored and excited to be named a captain for next season," Lytle said. "I have a lot of respect for this program and especially all the hard work that went into this off season. I think there are exciting things ahead and I could not be prouder to join Ymke and Fred to lead this group in the fall."
