Eagles welcome Yolanda Griffith and AJ Cohen to The Heights.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College head women's basketball coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee announced two new members of her coaching staff today. Yolanda Griffith and AJ Cohen, who were both with Coach McNamee in Albany, will join her at The Heights.
"I am extremely excited that Yolanda and AJ will be joining me on The Heights,'' said Coach McNamee. "They are both passionate coaches who understand the winning culture that we want to instill in our current and incoming players.''
"They both will put the development of this team and the ultimate success of the program first. I am thrilled to have them with me as we enter this new era of BC Women's Basketball,'' said Coach McNamee.
Griffith is a two-time gold medalist and a Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. Prior to BC, she was an assistant coach at Albany, UMass and Dartmouth.
A native of Chicago, Griffith played professionally for 11 seasons and helped the Sacramento Monarchs win the 2005 WNBA Championship. She was also the league MVP in 1999 and was voted one of the Top 15 players all-time in WNBA history.
"Coach Yo is a women's basketball icon,'' said McNamee. "She is one of the greatest players of all-time. Her on-court coaching presence and ability to develop players is tremendous.''
Cohen, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, served as a graduate assistant coach at Pikeville alongside Coach McNamee from 2014-16.
A 2013 graduate of Louisville, Cohen served as an assistant to the women's basketball program as an undergraduate. He helped with opponent scouting breakdown, filming home games and was a male practice player.
"Coach AJ has a tireless work ethic and an amazing amount of energy,'' said McNamee. "He has an infectious personality that makes it easy for him to connect with recruits and develop players.''
