
Eagles Split First Day of Easton Crimson Classic

BC powered past Samford as Dreswick threw five hit-less innings
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Boston College softball team overpowered Samford, 9-2, in game one of the Easton Crimson Classic behind five hitless innings by senior pitcher Jessica Dreswick. The Eagles were no-hit by No. 13 Alabama in game two, losing the contest, 5-0.

After both teams remained scoreless through three innings in game one, BC opened the scoring in the third and scored seven unanswered runs over the next three innings behind two triples by DiEmmanuele and Murphy and two hits by Cook. Though the Bulldogs would tack on two runs in the sixth, it wasn't enough.

Gabby Callaway of Alabama hit a three-run home run in third inning of game two to give the Crimson Tide a 3-0 lead. Alabama would add two more runs in the following inning and a no-hit, 11 strikeout performance by pitcher Alexis Osorio secured the 5-0 victory.

BC will play Samford and Alabama again tomorrow at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. ET.

Alabama jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning when Callaway hit a three-run home run. The Crimson Tide would add on three more runs in the fourth and Osorio threw a no-hitter to secure the victory for the Crimson Tide.

BC Highlights:
- Dreswick finished the game with eight strikeouts. The right-hander struck out five of the first six batters she faced and did not allow a hit through five innings. Her eight K's are her fourth most in a game this season. She allowed only two hits, two walks and one earned run.
- Junior Lexi DiEmmanuele hit her second triple in four days in the first game of the day. It is her second triple of the season and the fifth of her career. The junior has already matched her 2017 season-high in triples. She is now tied for third in the BC record books with five career triples.
- DiEmmanuele also stole her team-leading ninth bag of the season.
- Senior Annie Murphy hit her first triple of the season in the fifth inning and the second of her career. She also chipped in with two RBIs.
- The game against Stamford marked the second game this season in which BC has notched at least two triples.
- Freshman CC Cook led the team with three hits in game one, including two RBIs. That is the most hits she has recorded in a single game this season and marks her second multi-hit game.

How it Happened:
- Both teams remained scoreless through three innings. The Eagles struck first when freshman Cami Sellers reached base on a walk in the fourth inning. DiEmmanuele blasted a two-out triple to left center to drive home Sellers. Cook followed with a single to right field, scoring DiEmmanuele and giving BC a 2-0 lead.
- Senior Jordan Chimento led off the fifth inning with a single to the pitcher and freshman Gianna Randazza laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Murphy shot a bases-clearing triple to left center. Severini hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive home Murphy and increase the Eagles' lead to 5-0.
- DiEmmanuele led off the sixth inning with a walk and then stole second. Cook hit a single to right field to advance DiEmmanuele to third. Cook followed by taking second base. Junior Allyson Moore hit a sacrifice fly to right field to advance Cook and score DiEmmanuele. Randazza picked up a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Cook and adding to the Eagles lead.
- Samford got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning when Whitney Hinton and Shelby Maze led off with back-to-back singles. Both runners advanced a bag on a wild pitch. Mekhi Mayfield then reached on a fielding error, scoring both runners and making the score 7-2.
- The Eagles added two more insurance runs in seventh inning when Severini hit a single down the left field line. DiEmmanuele reached second base on an error that also scored Severini. A single by Cook drove home DiEmmanuele to secure a 9-2 victory for BC.
Game 2 Turning Point

How it Happened:
- In the third inning, Elissa Brown reached base on a fielding error and she would steal second and third base. Kaylee Tow drew a walk and Rachel Bobo would pinch run and steal second base. Callaway hit a three-run home run to right field to give Alabama a 3-0 lead.
- Alabama added to its lead in the fourth inning when Merris Schroder singled to right field, stole second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Elissa Brown hit a single to shortstop to drive home Schroder and she advanced to second on a throwing error. Kaylee Tow hit singled to shortstop to drive home Brown and increase Alabama's lead to 5-0.
- Schroder led off the sixth inning with a bunt single to the pitcher and then stole second. Demi Turner reached on a fielding error. Schroder and Turner both advanced a bad on a sacrifice bunt, but Dreswick recorded a strikeout and forced a fly out to prevent the Crimson Tide from scoring. Osorio would complete the no-hitter in the top of the seventh to earn the win.
