Student-athletes were chosen for their on- and off-field successes
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College student-athletes were honored at the National Student-Athlete Day Reception in hosted by Learning Resources for Student-Athletes (LRSA) on Monday evening. The event honored the academic achievements of the BC students.
Eagles were chosen by head coaches to represent their teams for successes both in the classroom and on the playing field. The student-athletes invited a professor who has made a lasting impact on their educational experience at Boston College. The event was an opportunity to bring faculty and student-athletes together outside of the classroom to recognize the important relationships that are formed at BC.
William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond and Director of LRSA Michael Harris spoke at the event. Sophomores Anna Flynn on the women's cross country/track and field team and Adam French of men's soccer were featured speakers.
"This is a very special event that really exemplifies what our student-athletes and faculty are all about at BC," Jarmond said. "The connections formed between our faculty and student-athletes go beyond the classroom and are paramount to their success. We are proud to honor all of their accomplishments and the valued support the BC faculty provide."
"I am really honored to be at this event and to be able to invite my faculty member, Flynn said. "I would have never thought that I would invite Father Paul McNellis to this event last year, but he has taught me a lesson greater than I could have ever asked for and that was to believe in myself."
"For this event, I brought my mother with me, Mary French, as she was a huge inspiration to me," French said. "Boston College was always in my life from when I was little, but she was my number one inspiration and main reason I came here, not only to play soccer. To be selected by my coach for this event is very special to me. It shows that my coach trusts me, trusts that I have good relationships with my professors and supports me in general."
