Final practice ever for the Eagles inside the bubble at Alumni Stadium
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – It was a historic day at Boston College as the football team practiced for the final time inside the bubble at Alumni Stadium. The Eagles will practice outside at Alumni Stadium for the remainder of spring practice following Easter break and will have the new indoor field house to practice inside beginning this summer.
Â
"It is very exciting knowing this is our last practice inside the bubble," said head coach Steve Addazio. "It has served us really well here, but it's time to move forward. We have an elite facility going up with both an indoor and weight room that will really help our players develop and train. This will help bring our
program to the next level."
Â
The Eagles finished their ninth practice of the spring Tuesday morning as the team practiced in full pads for nearly two hours. The players will have a walk-through Wednesday before having off for Easter the rest of the week.
Â
Addazio is pleased with where the team is through nine practices.
Â
"I think there's been great growth and development," said Addazio. "A lot of young guys, a lot of players getting work. I think we're as far ahead as we've been at this stage in the past."
Â
The Easter break also looks to be coming at the right time according to the sixth-year head coach.
Â
"We are getting a little tired here right now mentally and physically," added Addazio. "I think we're ready for a little break, Easter break will serve us well. Get the bodies feeling better again, get the minds feeling better again, come back, and then I think we make a good strong push down the finish."
Â
Boston College resumes spring practice on Tuesday, April 3.
Â
Practice Notes: Minnesota Vikings punter and former BC standout Ryan Quigley attended practice Tuesday and spoke to the team … the move of Ben Glines to running back this spring will be something to keep an eye on this fall for the Eagles. Glines has shown the ability to be a dangerous weapon as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield. Glines ripped off a long touchdown run during team work on Tuesday … sophomore running back AJ Dillon also continued his strong play this spring with a long run as well during Tuesday's workout. Dillon and fellow sophomore Travis Levy have shown to be a strong one-two punch … the defensive coaches were able to get a ton of different players looks with the first-team defense on Tuesday. Among the players who were able to get some reps with the ones included redshirt freshman defensive end Drew McQuarrie and sophomore defensive tackle TJ Rayam … sophomore quarterback EJ Perry looked comfortable directing the first-team offense as he made numerous plays both through the air and on the ground. Perry hit senior wide receiver Jeff Smith on a perfect go-route during 7-on-7 drills and connected with senior wide receiver Elijah Robinson over the middle for a chunk play. Perry also kept the ball on a QB run for a big gain during team work … Robinson has continued to make plays this spring at wide receiver, including a tight-roped, sideline grab from Perry … senior linebacker Kevin Bletzer had a fumble recovery and senior defensive back Lukas Denis had an INT during Tuesday's practice … senior defensive tackle Ray Smith showed off his versatility as the 300-plus pound lineman caught kickoffs during one of the breaks for the team Tuesday … on the field, Smith also had a batted down pass as he pressured the quarterback.
