These pitchers shined on the mound over the weekend
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Jessica Dreswick of the softball team and junior Dan Metzdorf of the baseball team were tabbed Eagles of the Week for their outstanding performances last week.
Â
Dreswick pitched 15.2 innings against Virginia over the weekend, recording 12 strikeouts, including seven in a single game. During game one against the Cavaliers, the right-hander pitched a perfect game, not allowing a hit or a walk in five innings as the Eagles run-ruled Virginia, 8-0. The seven strikeouts recorded in that game mark the fifth time during the 2018 season that Dreswick has thrown seven K's or more in a single game. The senior has now thrown both the first ACC no-hitter in program history and the first perfect game. The game is also believed to be the first perfect game in BC history. Dreswick no-hit NC State on April 23, 2016 to claim only the second-overall no-hitter in program history. She pitched her eighth and ninth complete games of the season and her 36 and 37th career complete game over the weekend to help lead the Eagles to a series sweep of the Cavaliers.
Â
Junior left-handed starter Dan Metzdorf struck out a career-high 13 in a no-decision on Saturday afternoon in the Eagles' series-clinching game against Virginia Tech. The southpaw tied a career high with eight innings pitched and did not walk a batter in that span. He only gave up two hits - both singles - and allowed one run. When he left the game, the Eagles were up, 2-1. The 13 Ks were the most since 2007 when former BC pitcher Terry Doyle struck out 13 Wake Forest batters in a 4-3 win.Â
Â
The softball team returns to action when it plays at Boston University in Boston, Mass. on Wednesday, March 28 at 4 p.m. The baseball team is slated to play UConn at home in Brighton, Mass. today at 3 p.m.
