
Fitzgerald Tabbed to Second Team; Woll & Kim Named to Third Team

Casey Fitzgerald earns a spot as a Hockey East Second Team All-Star; Joseph Woll and Michael Kim earn spots as Third Team All-Stars
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Boston College's defensive corps was highlighted in Hockey East's second wave of awards on Wednesday morning as junior captain Casey Fitzgerald was listed as Second Team All-Star while classmate Michael Kim and sophomore goaltender Joseph Woll both earned spots as Third Team All-Star members.

The Hockey East Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year will be unveiled on Thursday evening at the league's postseason banquet held at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge.

Prior to his second-team selection, Fitzgerald was heralded as the Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman. He becomes the 30th Eagle in program history to earn a spot on the second team.

The Eagles' third-year defenseman leads Boston College in blocked shots (39) in addition to shots on goal (100) as BC heads into the Hockey East semifinals.

Fitzgerald has recorded 19 points on the season, scoring six goals and logging 13 assists as BC's captain is tied for 13th in scoring amongst all defensemen in the conference. He also leads Boston College in power play assists this season, doling out seven helpers with the man advantage.

The rearguard veteran is Boston College's most experienced skater, leading the Eagles in both career points scored (11-53-68) and games played (111).

Woll heads into the Hockey East semis with a .915 save percentage that is sixth in Hockey East and 26th in all of college hockey. The St. Louis native owns a 2.45 goals against average which is 28th in the NCAA and fifth in amongst conference goaltenders. His winning percentage of .621 (17-10-2) is third best in Hockey East and stacks up as 18th best in all the land.

Since Feb. 14, BC's second-year is third in save percentage (.953) and fourth in the nation in goals against (1.48) and is just one of three netminders in the league to have won their last six starts.

On March 9 vs. Merrimack in game one, of the Hockey East quarterfinals he turned in a season-best 37 saves for the shutout, marking his second of the season. It marked the second-year backstopper's second-straight shut out to start the playoffs as Woll backstopped the Eagles' to a 7-0 win in against the Catamounts in the 2017 Hockey East game one quarterfinals.

On March 12, he notched his third league honor of the season, winning Defensive Player of the Week.

Woll has stopped 752-of-822 shots faced in 29 outings this season. For a career, Woll has stopped 1,664 - of - 1,821 shots faced (.914 save percentage) with a career mark of 2.55 goals against average and 34-23-5 overall record.

Kim earns his first Hockey East postseason awards a third team member as the junior captain leads all Eagle defensemen in scoring with 20 points this season. The Toronto native is tied for 10th amongst all Hockey East defensemen, having accrued five goals and 20 assists in 36 games played (0.56 ppg).

In BC's game two clinching victory over Merrimack in the Hockey East quarterfinals, he notched his fifth multi-point performance of the season with a pair of assists, marking his first since recording a career-best three helpers on Feb. 23 against Maine.

Kim has now reached the 20-point plateau in back-to-back seasons for the Eagles.

The 6-foot-0 defenseman is second on BC in blocked shots (38) as well as in the plus/minus category (+12). He has also tossed the third-most shots on net this season with 89.

Kim is one of eight Eagles to have skated in all 36 outings for the maroon and gold this season as he became the third member of the program to earn a spot on the third team, joining Austin Cangelosi and Scott Savage (2017).
