
Woll Earns Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Following a season-best 37 saves and his second shutout of the season, sophomore Joseph Woll collected his team-best third conference award of the year
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore goaltender Joseph Woll earned his third conference award of the season after strong showing in the conference quarterfinals against Merrimack, collecting Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday morning.

The St. Louis native turned in a season-best 37 saves in game one of the Hockey East semifinals, shutting out No. 10-seed Merrimack, 1-0, on Friday, March 9.

Woll earned his second shutout of the season and third of his career after stopping all 37 shots. It marked the second-year backstopper's second-straight shut out to start the playoffs as Woll backstopped the Eagles' to a 7-0 win in against the Catamounts in the 2017 Hockey East game one quarterfinals. That shutout in 2017 marked Woll's first-career blanking.

In game two, Woll stopped 30-of-33 Merrimack attempts to help the Eagles clinch their 24th trip to the Hockey East semifinals in a 4-3 overtime victory as the BC netminder upped his playoff record to 5-1.

Woll is currently 18th nationally in winning percentage (.621 • 17-10-2) and 26th in save percentage (.915). His goals against average ranks 28th at a mark of 2.45.

Since January, Woll's .932 save percentage is the 10th best in college hockey.

Woll joins Hockey East Players of the Week Dylan Sikura (Northeastern) and Josh Wilkins (Providence) and Hockey East Rookie of the Week Logan Cockerill (Boston University) as this week's conference award winners.

Tuesday's award marks Woll's team-best third conference honor this season and ninth, overall, for Boston College.
