Eagles Shut out Samford Behind Eight K's by Frei; Fall to No. 13 Alabama

Junior Carly Severini and freshman Cami Sellers each hit a home run on the day
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Boston College softball team shutout Samford, 4-0, in game one of the day behind an eight-strikeout complete game performance by redshirt junior pitcher Allyson Frei, but fell to No. 13 Alabama, 6-3, in game two despite a three-run home run by freshman Cami Sellers.
In game one versus Samford, the Eagles tacked on a run in the first inning. A lead-off double in the second by senior Jordan Chimento followed by a two-out triple by junior Lexi DiEmmanuele gave BC a 3-0 lead. Junior Carly Severini hit her first home run of the season in the fifth inning to secure the win for the Maroon and Gold.
BC struck first in game two versus Alabama behind a three-run home run by Sellers. A solo home run in the fifth inning by Bailey Hemphill tied the score at three apiece. The Crimson Tide would score two more runs in the inning and one more run in the sixth to secure the 6-3 victory.
The Eagles will play their fifth and final game of the Easton Crimson Classic tomorrow when they face Fordham at noon.

She also recorded her first shutout of the season and eighth career shutout, moving up to sole possession of eighth place in the record books. She also finished the game with eight strikeouts – her second most in a single game this season.
- The game against Samford marks the fifth time this season that BC has shutout its opponent.
- Junior Carly Severini blasted her fourth career home run in the fifth inning.
- Junior Lexi DiEmmanuele stole her team-leading 10th bag of the season. She is now second on the team with 12 runs scored.
- DiEmmanuele hit her third triple in five days. It is her third triple of the season and the sixth of her career. The junior has already bested her 2017 season-high in triples. She is now tied for second in the BC record books with six career triples.
- Senior Chloe Sharabba hit her team-leading 20 and 21st hits of the season. Her double in the second game is her team-leading fifth double of the season. She is now leading the team with seven multi-hit games this season and is leading the team in runs scored with 15.
- Freshman CC Cook notched her fourth hit of the tournament in game one.
- Chimento finished the day with two hits, including a double in game one and a single in game two.
- Sellers hit her team-leading third home run of the season in the first inning of game two.
- Senior Annie Murphy is now second on the team with 19 hits this season after hitting a single in game two.

- DiEmmanuele led off to start the game in the first inning and reached base on a walk. She stole second on the following pitch and advanced to third on a ground out. With two outs, Sellers reached base on a muffed throw, scoring DiEmmanuele and giving BC a 1-0 lead.
- BC added to its lead in the second inning when Chimento hit a double off the left field wall and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Gianna Randazza. A two-out triple to left field by DiEmmanuele scored Chimento. Sharabba hit a single through the left side to score DiEmmanuele and increase the Eagles' lead to 3-0.
- Severini shot a solo home run over the left field wall in the fifth inning to add to BC's lead.
- Samford opened the fifth inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. With two outs, Lexie Higgins hit a single to left field to load the bases. Sharabba made a leaping catch at shortstop to end the inning though and prevent the Bulldogs from scoring.

- Sharabba blasted a double to left field followed by a single by Murphy to put runners on the corners for BC with two outs. Sellers blasted a home run over the right field wall to give the Eagles an early 3-0 lead.
- Alabama threatened in the first inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with no out. Senior pitcher Jessica Dreswick forced two fly outs and a ground out to get out of the inning and prevent the Crimson Tide from scoring.
- Merris Schroder walked to lead off the second inning for Alabama. She stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Demi Turner reached base on a fielder's choice and Schroder scored on a throwing error, making the score 3-1.
- A lead-off double by Kaylee Tow in the third inning, followed by back-to-back walks led the bases for Alabama with one out. Reagan Dykes hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive home Tow. Dreswick struck out the following batter to hold the Crimson Tide to only one run in the inning.
- Hemphill led off the fifth inning with a solo home run down the left field line to tie the score at 3-3. Gabby Callaway hit a double to right center field followed by two walks to load the bases. Booker hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive home one run and Demi Turner singled up the middle, giving Alabama a 5-3 lead.
- Tow hit a solo home run to right center field in the sixth inning to make it 6-3.
