Apuzzo, Arsenault, Kent and Miller tabbed to 50-woman list
New York City, N.Y. – Four Boston College lacrosse players were among the 50 women named to the 2018 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation earlier tonight. The list consists of 100 names, 50 men and 50 women, who are considered to be the top players in the country from all three NCAA divisions.
Juniors Sam Apuzzo, Dempsey Arsenault, Elizabeth Miller and senior Kenzie Kent were named to the watch list for the Maroon and Gold.
Each year, the Tewaaraton Award is presented by Under Armour and honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
Apuzzo has been a key cog to the Eagles' offense the last three seasons. This year, she is the Eagles' leading scorer with 30 goals, which also leads the nation. Her 43 points lead nation, as well, with 43. Already this season, Apuzzo broke the single-game records for draw controls (11) and goals (9) in back-to-back games.
Â
Arsenault is having a breakout season. After only six games, the junior has scored 20 goals, three more than she had in the entire 2017 season. She posted nine points in the Eagles' win over No. 8 Navy on Feb. 27 off three goals and six assists for a career performance.
Â
A powerful constant on defense, Miller has started every game on the season. She's tallied 13 draw controls, eight ground balls and caused seven turnovers in the six BC victories. Miller was a part of the defense that held Holy Cross to two goals on Feb. 13.
Â
This is Kent's second appearance on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. In 12 games in 2017, Kent posted 77 points from 39 goals and 38 assists. She was the 2017 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player after scoring a record-tying 10 points in the championship game and shattering the previous tournament record with 37 points over five NCAA games.
Other Eagles still have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch List additions, if applicable, will be announced in March and early April. Once the list is finalized, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees.
Toward the conclusion of the regular season, the field will be condensed to five finalists for the men's and women's award. The winners will be announced at the 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, which will be held May 31, 2018, at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
