Paige Duca Named Qualifier for NCAA Indoor Championships

The junior will compete in the one mile run at the championship meet
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced on Tuesday evening the participants that will compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. Boston College track and field athlete junior Paige Duca has been named one of 16 women to qualify for the one mile run at the championship meet.
Approximately 2.5 percent of college track and field athletes qualify for the indoor NCAA Championship meet. Boston College is one out of 84 DI colleges that will be sending one athlete or more to compete in the women's events.
Duca ran her fastest mile time of the season when she crossed the line in 4:37.55 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9 at the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University. Â She recently earned bronze in the mile at the Indoor ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C. on Feb. 24. For photos of Duca's race at ACCs, click here.
Her seed time puts her in 12th place among the 16 women who will run the event.
Duca is the first women to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet since Liv Westphal qualified for the 5K in 2016. The junior is the first BC student-athlete to qualify for the mile since school record holder Jillian King qualified in 2014. Duca is currently in fourth place in the BC record books in the one mile run.
The championships will be held March 9 and 10 in College Station, Texas and hosted by Texas A&M.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live starting at 6:30 p.m. eastern time on March 9 and beginning at 5 p.m. eastern on March 10.
