
Woll Claims Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Sophomore goaltender Joseph Woll's second-career shutout yields second conference award of the season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore goaltender Joseph Woll was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week after posting his second-career shutout on Saturday night at Maine.

The St. Louis native stopped all 33 shots faced to backstop No. 19 Boston College to a 5-0 victory in Orono. It marked his first shutout of the season and first blanking since last March in the Hockey East quarterfinals against Vermont on March 10, 2017.

Woll's performance marks the Eagles' second shutout of the season as Ryan Edquist stopped all 23 shots against UConn on Dec. 30, 2017.

On Saturday night, Woll stopped sixteen shots in the first period, tying the second most attempts he has thwarted this season. He stopped 20 shots in the second period against Providence on Jan. 12 and turned away 16 shots in the middle frame at BU on Dec. 2.

On Feb. 15 at Massachusetts, Woll turned aside 28-of-30 shots to set the pace for the weekend.

Woll joins Hockey East Player of the Week Adam Gaudette (Northeastern) and Rookie of the Week - Cayden Primeau (Northeastern) as this week's conference award winners.

Monday's award marks Woll's second conference honor this season as the sophomore goaltender was the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 20, 2017.
