Third Line Leads Eagles to Win at No. 10 Maine
February 17, 2018 | Women's Hockey
Connolly, Little and Belinskas each collect three points in 3-1 win in regular-season finale
ORONO, Maine – Erin Connolly and Ryan Little each scored a goal and added an assist while line mate Delaney Belinskas picked up two assists as the fourth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team earned a 3-1 win at No. 10 Maine on Saturday afternoon.
BC tallied one goal in each period to claim the win and wrap the regular season with a 28-3-3 overall record and a 19-2-3 mark in Hockey East play. Maine (17-12-5, 11-9-4 HEA) scored its lone goal in the third period, cutting BC's lead to one goal before Little knocked in the insurance tally just over three minutes later.
In the second period, with her assist on Caitrin Lonergan's goal, Daryl Watts recorded her 55th point in Hockey East play this season, tying the conference's record for points in a league season. The freshman had already tied the league's single-season goals record yesterday, both marks now shared with former Northeastern standout Kendall Coyne, who set them in her Patty Kazmaier season of 2015-16.
Boston College will return to the next weekend when the team opens its best-of-three Hockey East Quarterfinal series against Vermont, the eighth-seeded team. BC will host the HEA Quarterfinal games at Kelley Rink at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24, and, if necessary, Sunday, Feb. 25.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st, 4:36 | BC GOAL, 1-0 – Ryan Little started the play in the Eagles' defensive end, tipping a blue line pass and knocking it out of the zone and deep into the Maine end. She chased down the puck along the half boards and curled back inside, playing Delaney Belinskas in the slot. The puck got hung up in Belinskas' skates, allowing Erin Connolly to cut across, gain possession into space and shovel a backhand back across Maine goaltender Lauren Porter for the 1-0 lead.
- 2nd, 7:59 | BC GOAL, 2-0 – With the Eagles forechecking hard in the Maine end, Molly Slowe broke up a scrum along the boards and pulled the puck out, playing Caitrin Lonergan just off the wall. Lonergan turned toward goal, dropping a pass to Daryl Watts down by the goal line as she continued across the slot. Watts centered a pass to Lonergan on the far side of the goal, and she knocked in her 29th tally of the season to give BC a 2-0 lead.
- 3rd, 5:41 | MAINE GOAL, 2-1 – Off a faceoff draw win in the BC end, Bridget McCarthy wrapped the puck back around the boards. Maine's Brittany Kucera got to it first and plucked it off the boards, skated into space at the top of the circle and unleashed a rising shot that beat Katie Burt and put Maine on the board for the first time this weekend.
- 3rd, 8:57 | BC GOAL, 3-0 – Caroline Ross dumped the puck deep into the Maine end and Connolly won a foot race into the far corner. She skated back around the goal, but her backhand shot in front was wide. Belinskas picked up the rebound off the wall and put a centering pass into the crease that kicked off Porter as she slid across, leaving the puck sitting in the blue paint. Little pounced on the loose puck and tapped it in as a Maine player fell on Porter. The referees reviewed the play, but upheld the call on the ice and BC regained its two-goal advantage.
GAME NOTES
- Boston College finished the Hockey East season with 19 wins, the team's third-highest victory total in program history behind its 24-0-0 mark in 2015-16 and its 20-0-1 record in 2014-15 … BC's final conference record was 19-2-3
- The Eagles improved to 8-1-0 against ranked teams this season
- Katie Burt recorded 30 saves in her 28th victory of the season … this was her third-straight game with 30 or more saves this week and her fourth game in the last five with 30 or more saves

- Watts' 79 points are now tied for third on the Eagles' single-season point chart … she has matched Skarupa's 2015-16 total and is two back of Carpenter's second-place mark of 81 from 2014-15, her Patty Kazmaier award-winning season
- Caitrin Lonergan netted her 29th goal of the season in the second period, pushing her season point total to 70 points … Lonergan became the fourth different player in program history to notch a 70-point season, joining Alex Carpenter '16 (three times), Haley Skarupa (twice) and freshman Daryl Watts

- Lonergan's second-period goal moved her into a tie with Alex Carpenter for the Boston College sophomore points record … Carpenter posted 70 points in 2012-13 … Lonergan will enter the postseason tied with Carpenter's 2012-13 total, one back of fifth-place Skarupa's 71 points in 2014-15
- Lonergan's goal also turned out to be the game-winner, her 11th career game-winning goal … she moved into a tie for eighth place on the Eagles' career game-winning goals chart, matching Taylor Wasylk's career total
- Erin Connolly's goal in the first period was her fourth tally of the season and her 12th career goal … it brought her season point total to 10 (4-6-10) making her the 12th player to reach double figures in points this season
- Connolly recorded her second multiple-point game of the season with her one-goal, one-assist effort … it was her fifth multi-point effort of her career
