Eagles selected first in Hockey East Preseason Coaches Poll for third straight year
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The fourth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team was picked to repeat as Hockey East champions according to the conference's annual preseason coaches' poll which was released on Tuesday. BC drew seven of eight available first-place votes to sit atop the nine-team poll.
After the Eagles, No. 8 Northeastern was picked to finish second this season with two first-place votes, while Boston University was chosen to finish third.
Providence, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Merrimack and Maine were picked to finish fourth through ninth, respectively. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
The coaches' poll nearly mirrors the final 2016-17 standings, save for UNH and UConn's predicted order of finish. Last year, UNH finished sixth and UConn seventh.
The Eagles have won the last four Hockey East regular-season crowns. In 2013-14, BC went 18-2-1 to claim its first-ever regular-season title, and followed that with a 20-0-1 mark in 2014-15. In 2015-16, Boston College established a record in Hockey East by posting the first-ever perfect conference season, men or women, going 24-0-0. Last year in 2016-17, BC again won the league with a 17-4-3 record, besting Northeastern by seven points.
After a bye in the schedule this coming weekend, Boston College will kick off the 2017-18 season next week when BC hosts No. 5 Minnesota Duluth in a two-game series at Kelley Rink. The first game is the season is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, and will be followed by a 2 p.m. faceoff on Friday, Oct. 6. Admission is free and all of Boston College's regular-season home games will be streamed live on ESPN3.
