Women will open the season behind Clarkson, Wisconsin and Minnesota
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College women's hockey team will enter the 2017-18 season ranked No. 4 in the nation, according to the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Preseason Poll, which was released on Monday.
The Eagles picked up 110 points from the voters, eight points back of third-place Minnesota (118 points), who also had four first-place votes. Defending national champion Clarkson led the way with 141 points and 10-of-15 first-place votes to earn the preseason No. 1 ranking. Wisconsin (128 points) drew the remaining first-place vote and finished No. 2 in the voting.
Minnesota Duluth – whom the Eagles open the 2017-18 season against on Oct. 5-6 at Kelley Rink – are ranked No. 5, while St. Lawrence, BC's 2017 NCAA Quarterfinal opponent, is ranked No. 6. Cornell, Northeastern, Quinnipiac and Robert Morris complete the top 10.
Colgate, Princeton, Ohio State, Harvard, Mercyhurst and Boston University also received votes.
In addition to the Eagles' season-opening series against UMD, BC will also travel to Canton, N.Y., for a pair against St. Lawrence on Nov. 10 and 11. The Eagles will face Northeastern at least four times this season: Nov. 28, Jan. 12, Jan. 13 and Feb. 6 in the first round of the Beanpot. BC also has at least three games against BU scheduled, and at least two games against Harvard on this year's slate.
Last year, Boston College advanced to its seventh Frozen Four and ninth NCAA Tournament. BC finished the year with its third-best record in program history, a mark of 28-6-5. The Eagles won their fourth-straight Hockey East regular-season title, seventh Beanpot crown and third Hockey East Tournament championship.
The Eagles return 18 letterwinners from last year's squad and have added four freshmen, including three skaters who played in the 2017 IIHF Women's Under-18 World Championship gold medal game.
