Warner Scores Two and BC Shuts Out PC

The Eagles tally fifth non-conference win
Newton, Mass. – The eighth-ranked Boston College field hockey team got back in the victory column with a 4-0 shutout against Providence at the Newton Campus Field Hockey Complex on Sunday afternoon. It marked the Eagles' (5-1) fifth straight non-conference win.

Freshman Elizabeth Warner scored the first and last goals as BC notched one in the first half and three in the second against the Friars (3-3). The Eagles tallied a season-high 29 shots and the second-most goals in the victory.

Senior Brooke Matherson recorded her first goal of the season while freshman Fusine Govaert notched her first career assist on Warner's second goal. The victory was the first shutout of the season for the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: BC 1, PC 0; 18:24: Warner stole the ball from the defender in PC's circle and crossed from left to right, firing off a shot that hit the back of the cage.
GOAL: BC 2, PC 0; 44:16: Freshman Cassidy Atchison inserted the ball on the Eagles' corner attempt and scored, collecting freshman Fusine Govaert's rebound off PC goalie Megan Guilbert's pads.
GOAL: BC 3, PC 0; 54:35: Freshman Caroline McGovern fed Matherson from the top of the circle right in front of the goal for the score.
GOAL: BC 4, PC 0; 64:28: Warner got her stick on Govart's reverse chip shot at the right corner to tip it past Guilbert in the 65th minute.

- The Eagles have won the last nine meetings and 16 of the last 18.
- The victory is the fifth non-conference win for BC in 2017.
