Eagles’ two-sport junior is one of four nominees for the 2017 Honda Sport Award for Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior two-sport athlete Kenzie Kent is one of four nominees for the 2017 Honda Sport Award for lacrosse. The four finalists were announced today by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards' executive director, Chris Voelz.
Â
Kent joins North Carolina junior Marie McCool, Stony Brook junior Kylie Ohlmiller and Maryland senior Zoe Stukenberg as the four nominees, which were chosen by a panel of coaches representing the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
Â
The Honda Sport Award winner for lacrosse will be announced next week, following the completion of voting by administrators from more than 1,000 NCAA member institutions who each have one vote.
Â
The Lacrosse Honda Sport Award winner will then become a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2017 Honda Cup, which will be presented during a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 26 from Los Angeles.
Â
Kent played in 12 of the Eagles' 24 games this season and helped lead Boston College to its first-ever Final Four and National Championship game. In 12 games, the attack recorded career highs with 39 goals, 38 assists and 77 points.
Â
Upon completion of the women's hockey season at the Frozen Four in the National Semifinals, Kent rejoined the lacrosse team for her first game on March 29. BC then went 9-3 overall - to improve the team's 8-4 mark before her arrival – and averaged 16.89 goals per game in 12 contests. Before she rejoined the lacrosse team, the Eagles posted a 14.25 goals per game. Kent finished third on the team in scoring, and her 6.42 points per game mark would've been second in the nation if she played a full season.
Â
In only 30 career games, Kent has registered 58 career assists and ranks sixth in program history. Her 77 points this year were the sixth-highest single-season total in program history, while her 38 assists in 2017 were the third-highest mark in a season.
Â
This season, Boston College established program records for wins (17), goals (373) and draw controls (369).
Â
Kent was a first-team IWLCA All-Northeast Region selection, was voted the 2017 NCAA Lacrosse Championship Most Outstanding Player and became the first player in NCAA DI Lacrosse Championship history to earn tournament MOP honors despite not being a member of the winning team. Kent scored 37 points in the postseason – including a record-matching 10 in the championship game – to set a new NCAA Tournament scoring record, smashing the old record of 26 points.
