Maryland pulls away late
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Boston College lacrosse team lost to No. 1 Maryland, 16-13, in front of a NCAA Women's Division I Championship Game record 11,668 fans on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
Junior Kenzie Kent - the 2017 Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Championship - led the Eagles with five goals and five assists which tied a career high for 10 points. She tied the NCAA Championship game record with 10 points set by Maryland's Jen Adams back in 2000.Â
Kent finished the NCAA Tournament with a NCAA Tournament record 37 points on 21 goals and 16 assists.
The Eagles fought back from behind multiple times and went on a 5-1 run to cut their deficit to 11-10 with 14 minutes left in the game. Maryland responded with a 5-1 run of its own to push the lead back to 16-11 with 4:07 left and would hold on for the win.
Sophomore Sam Apuzzo recorded four goals and matched her career high with eight draw controls. Senior Kate Weeks added a goal and an assist.

BC HIGHLIGHTS

TURNING POINT
After Boston College cut its second-half deficit to 11-10, Maryland responded with a 5-1 run to build a 16-11 lead with 4:07 left.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maryland opened the game with two goals in the first 1:42, but Apuzzo scored the next two goals to tie it 7:39 after the opening whistle.
- The Terrapins responded with three-straight goals to build a 5-2 lead at the 16:11 mark of the half.
- The Eagles closed out the first half with three unanswered goals to make it a tie game, 5-5.Â
- Kent, Weeks and senior Laura Frankenfield provided the three BC goals in a span of 3:32, and the Eagle defense held Maryland scoreless for the final 16 minutes, forcing six turnovers.
- Maryland came out hot in the second half with five goals in the first 4:26 to build its largest lead to that point, 10-5.
- BC responded with a 5-1 run over the next 10 minutes to cut the deficit to 11-10 with 14 minutes remaining. Kent factored in all five scores with three goals and two assists.
- Maryland came back with a 5-1 run over the next 10 minutes to push the lead to 16-11 with 4:07 remaining.
