BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore right-hander Jack Nelson did not allow a run or walk through a five-inning start, striking out three and allowing just one hit. He retired the final 11 batters he faced and tied a career high for innings pitched.
- Sophomore Gian Martellini tripled in the sixth to extend his career-long hit streak to nine games – the longest of the season for any BC player – and has at least one knock in 34 of the 41 games played this season. It was the only extra-base hit of the game.
- Junior Jake Palomaki was 1-for-2 with two runs and two walks. His career walks total is up to 106 as he sits third all-time in BC record books and stole his 41st career base, tied for sixth in school record books.
- Senior Michael Strem tallied a two-run single in the eighth. He also drew two walks. He has reached base safely 279 times in his career, which is 10th in BC record books.
- Sophomore Jake Alu was 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and stolen base. He has hit in 10 of the last 12 games and has reached base safely in all 12 of those games.
- Freshman Jacob Yish tallied a base hit to extend his career-long hit streak to four games. He has at least one hit in 12 of the 18 games played this season.
KEY PLAYS
- The Eagles mounted a six-run advantage on RBIs by Strem, Alu and juniors Donovan Casey and Mitch Bigras while Nelson, freshman RHP Jack Cunningham and junior LHP Carmen Giampetruzzi combined to throw eight scoreless.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored the first run of the game in the third. Freshman Aaron Soucy led off with a base hit to center and moved to second on a wild pitch. Palomaki hit one to left to put runners on the corners and Casey plated Soucy with a sac fly to right. BC loaded the bases on two walks and another single, but a strikeout ended the scoring threat.
- BC scored two more in the sixth to take a three-run lead. Martellini led off with a triple off the right-field wall and Alu drove him in with a base hit up the middle. Bigras hit a sacrifice fly to shallow right center, allowing the speedy Alu to score from third. With two down, senior Johnny Adams singled and stole second, but was stranded as a strikeout ended the inning.
- The Eagles added another in the seventh as they loaded the bases on a hit by pitch and two walks. Palomaki scored on wild pitch to make it a 4-0 game.
- Strem made it a 6-0 lead in the seventh as the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs on three straight walks. Strem singled to left to plate two more.
- The River Hawks scored their only run in the ninth with sophomore RHP John Witkowski on the hill. Oscar Marchena grounded one off the mound and Witkowski overthrew the first-base bag to allow a runner. He moved to second on a one-out chopper and scored on a base hit by Michael Young. Witkowski ended the game with a fly ball to left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
