BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior right-handed starter Brian Rapp threw five scoreless, allowing just one hit and one walk and striking out eight to tie a career high. He did not give up the hit through 4.2 innings.
- Sophomore Gian Martellini was 2-for-4 to extend his career-long hit streak to 14 games – the longest of the season for any BC player and tied for sixth in BC record books – and has at least one knock in 39 of the 46 games played this season.Â
- Sophomore right-hander John Witkowski picked up his first career save, throwing the eighth and ninth, allowing one hit and striking out one. He did not walk a batter.
- Junior Jake Palomaki led the way at the plate for the Eagles with a 2-for-3 day, plating the go-ahead run in the fifth and walking once. He set the BC record for career walks in the first game of the day.
- Sophomore Jake Alu recorded a hit, run and a walk. He has a hit in 14 of the last 17 games.
- Junior lefty Carmen Giampetruzzi threw two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out two. He also did not surrender a walk.
- Senior Michael Strem tallied his career ninth sacrifice fly, tying for ninth all-time in BC record books.
KEY PLAYS
- Knotted in a scoreless game, Palomaki scored junior Anthony Maselli from third on a bunt single in the fifth to give BC the first run of the game. The Eagles added one in the seventh and one in the eighth for insurance.
- Rapp, Giampetruzzi and Witkowski combined to allow just three hits on the day and keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the fifth. Maselli drew a lead-off walk and stolen second to move into scoring position. Freshman Aaron Soucy struck out swinging but reached first on a wild pitch, moving Maselli to third. Palomaki laid a bunt down the first-base line to score Maselli and log an infield hit. Right hander Robbie Hitt got out of the inning with three straight outs.
- BC added a run in the seventh with RHP Mike Davis on the mound. With one down, junior Donovan Casey doubled to the corner in left and moved to third on a passed ball. Strem brought him home with a sac fly to center.
- The Eagles scored their final run in the eighth as Alu drew a four-pitch walk, moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a groundout. Junior Mitch Bigras chopped one to second and the throw home was not in time to get Alu at the plate.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The victory was the third shutout for the Eagles in 2017.
- BC moves to 6-0 all-time against the Bobcats. All the games have been played on the Eagles' home field.
- BC is now 8-8 at home, 4-0 in non-conference action.
- The Eagles did not record an error for the 19th time this season.
- The Eagles pitching staff allowed just three hits in each game of the doubleheader, bringing the season total to nine games this season BC has allowed three hits or less. They allowed just one QU run in 18 innings.
