- UNC's Destiny DeBerry and Taylor Wike walked in the third, setting up Shifflett's go-ahead double.

The Tar Heels recorded four hits in the fourth inning to score four runs, taking a 5-0 lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Tar Heels loaded the bases. Leah Murray made contact, and an error allowed Shifflett to score from third.
- Wike began the scoring in UNC's four-run fourth inning with a two-RBI double that made it a 3-1 Tar Heels lead. Then Berlynne Delamora and Shifflett each posted scoring plays to make it 5-1.
- UNC's Brittany Pickett led off the fifth with a solo home run to extend UNC's lead to 6-1.
- Katie Baliff gave UNC another run with an RBI double in the sixth.
- The Eagles rallied for four runs in the seventh. DiEmmanuele doubled up the middle, and freshman Jules Trevino was hit by a pitch. Senior Taylor Coroneos reached on a fielder's choice, but the throw was muffed and DiEmmanuele scored. Junior Chloe Sharabba walked to load the bases. The runners advanced on a wild pitch, and senior Madison Paulson – pinch-running for Trevino – scored. Then Cortez hit a two-RBI single to center, closing UNC's lead to 7-4.
