Boston College added to the prestigious Tewaaraton Award Watch List
New York City, N.Y. – Two Boston College lacrosse players were among the 50 women named to the 2017 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation earlier tonight. The list consists of 100 names, 50 men and 50 women, who are considered to be the top players in the country from all three NCAA divisions.
Junior Kenzie Kent was named to the Watch List for the second straight season and is joined by sophomore Sam Apuzzo, making her first appearance. Earlier this season, both players received this season as Kent and Apuzzo earned Inside Lacrosse preseason All-America honors.
Each year, the Tewaaraton Award is presented by Under Armour and honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.
Kent, also a member of the women's hockey team, is expected to join the team in mid-March after the hockey season concludes. In 2016, she tallied 35 points, including 18 goals, in nine games played. Her performance earned her IWLCA First Team All-Region honors and an All-ACC second team selection.
Apuzzo has been a key cog to the Eagles' offense in 2017. Through seven games this season, she is the national leader in both points with 36 and assists with 16.
Other Eagles still have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch List additions, if applicable, will be announced in March and early April. Once the list is finalized, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees.
Toward the conclusion of the regular season, the field will be condensed to five finalists for the men's and women's award. The winners will be announced at the 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, which will be held June 1, 2017 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
