Dillon, Allen Capture New England Player of the Year Accolades

Third straight year BC captures George “Bulger” Lowe Award
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Awards Committee chairman Tim Whelan announced that Boston College defensive end Zach Allen and running back AJ Dillon were the winners of the 79th annual George "Bulger" Lowe Award, "New England's Heisman Trophy" and one of America's oldest college football accolades.
The Bulger Lowe Award recognizes the New England's best offensive and defensive players in the NCAA Bowl Subdivision/Football Championship Subdivision (FBS/FCS). Allen and Dillon head an all-star slate of players, coaches and officials to be honored at the club's annual Bob Whelan College Football Awards Night on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Mass.
Boston College defensive coordinator Jim Reid was also named the recipient of the John Baronian Award for Lifetime Contribution to Football. Reid, who is in his 44th season coaching, is in his second stint as defensive coordinator at Boston College and has helped guide the Eagles to back-to-back bowl appearances in his two years in Chestnut Hill.
Dillon rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns in BC's 39-16 win over UConn to become bowl eligible for the fourth time in five years Saturday evening at Fenway Park. It marked the second 200-yard game of the season for Dillon.
With 1,239 rushing yards this season, Dillon ranks second in the ACC in rushing and is second among all freshmen running backs nationally with 1,239 yards.
Dillon is 10th in Boston College single-season history with 1,239 rushing yards. Dillon is fourth among ACC freshmen all-time in single-season rushing as well.
Allen leads all defensive linemen nationally with 89 tackles in 2017. The Connecticut native has been one of the nation's most consistent defensive ends, totaling 11.5 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks in 2017. Against nationally-ranked Clemson, Notre Dame, NC State and Virginia Tech, Allen totaled 40 tackles in the four contests.
BC (6-5, 3-4 ACC) looks to close out the regular season with its seventh win of the year Saturday at Syracuse. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. with broadcast coverage on the ACC Network (my-38 in Boston) and the BC IMG Sports Network (WEEI 850 AM).
