No. 2 Eagles earn second tie at UConn this season
STORRS, Conn. – For the second time in as many trips to Storrs, the No. 2 Boston College women's hockey team earned a tie with Connecticut. On Saturday afternoon, the Eagles earned a 3-3 tie at Freitas Ice Forum behind Daryl Watts' two-goal effort.
Both teams scored one goal apiece in each period, as UConn took the 1-0 lead behind Theresa Knutson's power-play goal midway through the first before Caitrin Lonergan responded with her even-strength shot with just under 75 seconds to play in the stanza.
Watts' first of the day – a power-play goal – put BC ahead at 6:23 of the second, but UConn then responded shortly before the end of the second through Rebecca Lindblad's tip-in in front. Natalie Snodgrass then pushed the Huskies ahead with a power-play goal :38 into the third, but Watts' second of the day at 4:55 wrapped up the scoring.
Boston College (10-1-2, 5-0-2 HEA) out-shot Connecticut (4-5-4, 0-4-3 HEA) 33-29 on the day, including a 14-5 mark in the third period. UConn's 5-1 shot advantage in overtime included Snodgrass' partial breakaway, but BC goaltender Katie Burt turned the shot away to preserve the tie.
Boston College returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 22, when the team plays its last non-conference game until early February. The Eagles will travel across town to meet Harvard at 7 p.m. at the Crimson's Bright Hockey Center in Boston.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st, 7:35 | UCONN GOAL, 0-1 (PPG) – Kayla Mee sent a shot in from the point and Katie Burt made the initial save. However, the puck popped loose and Catherine Crawley got a stick on it to push it deeper in the crease, allowing Theresa Knutson to poke it home just 17 seconds into the game's first power-play opportunity.
- 1st, 18:48 | BC GOAL, 1-1 – Serena Sommerfield pulled the puck off a scrum on the boards and played a cross-ice pass to Makenna Newkirk near the blue line in front of the UConn bench. As she gained the zone, Caitrin Lonergan came on for her shift and took Newkirk's pass. She cut across the high slot, around a defender and ripped a rising shot back across that beat UConn goaltender Morgan Fisher high on her stick side to tie the game.
- 2nd, 6:23 | BC GOAL, 2-1 (PPG) – With the Eagles setting up in the zone for their power play, Caitrin Lonergan picked up the rebound of a Daryl Watts' shot and then fed Watts, who cut up the boards and played Toni Ann Miano at the far point. Miano returned the pass to Watts, who curled in off the half boards and ripped a wrist shot from the hash marks that beat Fisher and put BC ahead.
- 2nd, 17:55 | UCONN GOAL, 2-2 – BC won the faceoff just outside the UConn zone, but Natalie Snodgrass stole the puck and broke across the neutral zone and into the BC end. She deked around a defender and got off a shot, but Rebecca Lindblad flashed in front to tip the puck down and past Burt to pull the Huskies even.
- 3rd, 00:38 | UCONN GOAL, 2-3 (PPG) – UConn came out for the third period on the power play, and after getting set up, Taylor Wabick worked the puck around the back of the net for Briana Colangelo just off the opposite post. She shoveled a pass in front to Snodgrass, who banged it home back across the face of the goal to put UConn head.
- 3rd, 4:55 | BC GOAL, 3-3 – Caroline Ross pulled the puck off the boards and pushed a pass ahead to Newkirk gaining the zone. Once Newkirk caught up to the puck, she played a quick centering pass to Watts who took the space in front of her before firing off a quick snapshot that beat Fisher high to pull the Eagles level.
- OT, 2:38 | SAVE – UConn's Snodgrass broke in on a partial breakaway and gained room around her defender. She got off a shot on Burt's glove side from in close, but Burt made the save to preserve the tie.
