The second-team accolades are the second for both Eagles
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Boston College field hockey junior captains Ymke Rose Gote and Frederique Haverhals were named to the 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team, the league announced on Wednesday. It was the second time both players collected all-conference second-team accolades.
Â
Gote, a Amstelveen, The Netherlands native, and Haverhals, a Warmond, The Netherlands, native, are both tied for second on the Eagles with five assists each and have both scored two goals to notch nine points.
Â
Gote has started all 18 games in the midfield. She earned NFHCA Third-Team honors as a sophomore and was a member of the 2015 ACC All-Tournament team as a freshman. Her two goals this season came in the double overtime win against Pacific and the overtime loss to No. 7 North Carolina.
Â
Haverhals has started all 18 games for the Eagles at back. She notched the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory against Northeastern (Oct. 13) and also scored in the season-opening win against Quinnipiac. Haverhals was a 2016 NFHCA Third-Team All-American and earned All-Northeast Region Second Team honors as a freshman. She earned Preseason All-ACC accolades before the start of 2017.
Â
Virginia captured three of the four ACC honors as Tara Vittese was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Pien Dicke was voted as the ACC Freshman of the Year and Michele Madison garnered ACC Coach of the Year accolades. North Carolina's Ashley Hoffman was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Â
The All-ACC Team and the four individual awards are decided by a vote of the league's seven head coaches. All seven ACC teams are represented on the All-ACC squads.
Â
The 2017 ACC Field Hockey Championship gets underway Thursday in Louisville, Ky. The No. 12 Eagles will take on No. 2 Duke at 1:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Regional Sports Network – NESN locally – and streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
