
Allen, Braakhuis Earn Eagle of the Week

Eagles’ junior defensive lineman, graduate outside hitter take this week’s honors
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior defensive lineman Zach Allen (football) and graduate outside hitter Lynn Braakhuis (volleyball) have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.

The ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week this week, Allen had one of the best games a defensive end has had in BC history in Saturday's 23-10 loss to No. 16 Virginia Tech. Allen finished with a game-high and career-high 14 tackles. He tied for the team-lead with three tackles for loss, had one sack and also finished with a QB hurry. BC had a season-high five sacks and totaled nine tackles for loss against the Hokies. Allen now leads the Eagles in tackles (55) and QB hurries (3) and shares the team lead in tackles for loss (8). Nationally, Allen is 32nd nationally in tackles, 40th in tackles for loss and 49th in sacks. He is in the top 10 in the ACC in all three categories, as well.

Braakhuis helped pace volleyball to its first two ACC wins of the season on Friday and Sunday. On Friday in the 3-1 win over Georgia Tech, she had a team-high 14 kills and added five blocks and five digs. On Sunday, the Coesfield, Germany product had a game-high 13 kills and hit .458 in the Eagles' first 3-0 sweep of the season against Clemson. On the weekend she hit .366.

Football (2-4) returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, when the team travels to meet Louisville at 12:20 p.m. in a game that will be televised on the ACC Network – including locally on WSBK MyTV38. Volleyball (5-11) returns to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when the Eagles host Syracuse at 5 p.m.
