Defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Denver invades Kelley Rink for a big-time showdown Saturday night
BOSTON COLLEGE vs. DENVER
Boston College welcomes in defending national champion and No. 1 - ranked Denver Saturday night, marking the sixth time in the last seven seasons that the Pioneers and Eagles have collided on the ice in consecutive seasons. Last year, the Eagles traveled out to Denver and took out the Pioneers in the consolation game of the Ice Breaker Tournament at Magness Arena. Austin Cangelosi scored a pair of goals while David Cotton scored his first-career game-winning goal. Saturday marks the sixth time Denver has skated at Kelley Rink as the Eagles possess a slight 3-2 advantage in those contests. If the Eagles were to win tonight, it would tie the overall series between Boston College and Denver. The Pioneers hold a one-game advantage in the all-time series, with a 16-15 edge as Saturday marks the 32nd overall meeting between these two powerhouses. The last time DU skated into Kelley Rink, Boston College skated away with a 4-3 triumph on Oct. 30 after Matthew Gaudreau scored his first game-winning goal with only 36.6 seconds left in regulation. It was a bit of redemption after second-seeded Denver handed third-seeded BC a first-round exit in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, defeating the Eagles, 5-2, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence. In the 2014 NCAA Tournament in Worcester, the Eagles dumped DU, 6-2, thanks to a hat trick from Johnny Gaudreau and a 13-point performance (6-7-13) from his line of Kevin Hayes and Bill Arnold.
