
Eagles Fall to Virginia After Strong Start

Strockis sets a season high against UVA.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sophomore Jill Strockis registered a season-high 28 digs Friday night as Boston College volleyball hosted Virginia in Chestnut Hill.

The Eagles came out strong in the first frame with graduate Lynn Braakhuis notching four kills and sophomore Cat Balido notching threes. Strockis had 10 digs in the first set alone. BC took the first, 25-21, but Virginia overpowered BC and took the following three to come out of the match victorious.

Braakhuis led the Eagles, and the match, with 11 kills on the night, and Strockis had the match high in digs (28). Sophomore Jane DeJarld paced BC with 20 assists and registered 12 digs herself.

The Cavaliers were led by Chino Anukwuem, who also registered 11 kills. The match high in assists (22) was recorded by Kelsey Miller.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Braakhuis tallied 11 kills, a match-high.
- Shining on defense, Strockis recorded match-high 28 digs, and her new season high.
- Sophomore Cat Balido had a .571 hitting percentage in the third set, while sophomore Sophie West hit .500. These were the two highest averages of the set.
- Three Eagles produced a service ace: DeJarld, Balido and Braakhuis.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
Two attack errors from the Cavs put the Eagles on the board and led to a 5-0 run from BC, which included three straight kills from Braakhuis. The teams traded points, but the Eagles found a 6-2 that had three attack errors from UVA. This concreted the first-frame win for BC, 25-21.

SET 2
A 6-1 run from Virginia was broken up by a huge kill from Braakhuis. UVA was dominate this set, allowing the Eagles to only find a couple points here and there. The Cavs took the second set 25-16.

SET 3
Following a 5-2 from BC, which was sparked by a Balido kill, the Cavs found eight straight points. Though the Eagles didn't allow another big run, they couldn't catch up and fell 25-19.

A block from Amaka Chukwujekwu and Balido put BC on the board, but led into an 8-1 run from UVA. The Cavs used a 10-2 run to finish the set, 25-13, solidifying their victory.
