Eagles gain first ACC win and leapfrog Orange in the ACC Atlantic standings
NEWTON, Mass. – Callum Johnson powered Boston College to their first ACC victory of the season on Friday evening, slotting home the game-winning goal minutes into the first overtime period against Syracuse.
The sophomore entered the match in the 61st minute and remained on the field until the end to put Boston College (5-8-0, 1-5-0 ACC) on top for good, and grant them a much-needed three points in the ACC standings, leapfrogging Syracuse (5-7-2, 0-5-1 ACC) in the conference's Atlantic Division.
Henry Balf got the Eagles on the scoresheet in the first half, notching his first goal since September 2015 to put BC up by one.
Simon Enstrom was again busy up top for the Eagles, factoring into both goals with primary assists on each. Coming off of a hat trick against Harvard on Tuesday, the junior tacked onto his team-leading scoring tally, now standing with 20 points.
In net, Antonio Chavez-Borrelli made three saves in the winning effort, earning his third victory of the season. Syracuse's Hendrick Hilpert made four saves in the loss.
Boston College will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon on Tuesday, Oct. 17, hosting Connecticut at the Newton Campus Fields. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which can be accessed on WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 2' | Enstrom powered an early shot from six yards out that was deflected by the Orange goalkeeper, Hendrik Hilpert. The Eagles quickly regained possession, as Younes Boudadi played Heidar Aegisson through for a one-on-one chance, but his chip shot floated just wide
- 14' | Syracuse's Tajon Buchanon played the ball centrally from the top of the area right of Chavez Borrelli's goal to Hugo Delhommelle. Delhommelle let the ball slide just past the penalty arc to Mo Adams, who fired a low shot towards Chavez-Borelli. The Eagle goalkeeper flicked the ball just wide to keep the match scoreless.
- 20' | Aegisson battled for possession in the near corner, and won the ball and dished it off to Boudadi, who lasered in a cross to Luna. With his back to the goal, the freshman made a quick turn to get a shot off, but the effort was saved by Hilpert.
- 29' | BC GOAL – Taking the ball from the central midfield, Aegisson played the ball towards the near corner. Enstrom turned off of his defender to chase the pass, and swung in a low cross towards the top of the box. Luna was closest to Enstrom, but he left the ball run to find a wide open Balf. He fired from 12 yards out into the bottom left to give the Eagles the 1-0 advantage.
- 52' | SU GOAL – Syracuse's Simon Triantafillou dribbled the ball along the near flank and swung in a high, curving cross from 25 yards out. The ball met the head of the streaking Johannes Pieles, and his shot crossed back across the goal, past the reach of Chavez Borrelli, for the Orange equalizer.
- 77' | The Eagles won a free kick in the near corner. Callum Johnson lined up the kick and launched a high cross. Tomas Gudmundsson rose to meet the pass on the near post and looped his headed shot just a foot over the crossbar.
- 81' | SU's Buchanan got around his defender in the far corner and fired in a cross that was headed towards goal by Jonathan Hagman. Chavez Borrelli made a diving save to his right, deflecting the ball away to maintain the 1-1 score line.
- 90' | Enstrom fed Boudadi out wide, who carried to just outside the penalty area and took a final shot from 20 yards as the Eagles' last opportunity of regulation. The heavy shot had Hilpert going one way, but he reached back on his leap to make the save and send the game to overtime.
- 95' | BC GOAL – Bibas sent a long ball out of the Eagles' defensive third and down along the flank to Enstrom at the edge of the Eagles' attacking third. Enstrom headed the ball on into the penalty area and tapped on a pass centrally to Johnson, who took a touch and slotted a finesse shot past Hilpert for the game-winner and the Eagles' first ACC victory of the season.
