Haverhals Nets the Gamewinner to Top Northeastern

The Eagles honored the four seniors in a pregame ceremony
NEWTON, Mass. – The 10th-ranked Boston College field hockey defeated Northeastern, 2-1, Friday evening at Newton Campus Field Hockey Complex. Junior Frederique Haverhals broke the 1-1 tie in the 65th minute to lift the Eagles to their 10th win of the season.
Senior Alesandra Miller assisted on both BC goals, tying a career high. Freshman Fusine Govaert scored the first goal of the game in the first half. The Eagles (10-5) improved to 9-0 when scoring first and 6-0 when taking a lead into halftime. They are perfect against non-conference opponents.
BC topped the Huskies (7-7) for the 11th time in the last 13 meetings. The Eagles wrapped up the home slate with a 4-3 record on Newton Campus.
Sophomore Sarah Dwyer recorded six saves in the contest. She has recorded five or more six times in 2017.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: BC 1, NU 0; 10:52: Govaert put the Eagles on the board with a shot to the high left corner of the cage in the 11th minute. She received a pass from Miller from the right side of the circle.
GOAL: BC 1, NU 1; 48:32: The Huskies evened the score in the second half on a corner opportunity. June Curry-Lindahl inserted to Ffion Thompson, who made the stick stop. Aniek van de Graaf fired on goal for the equalizer.
GOAL: BC 2, NU 1; 64:20: Haverhals put the Eagles up for good in the 65th minute on a BC corner attempt. Miller inserted the ball to the junior who drive it to the lower right corner of the cage for the score. EMPTY NET: BC 2, NU 1; 65:59: With four minutes to play in the game, Northeastern pulled its goalie in favor of an extra field player. The BC defense stood tall, not allowing the Huskies to capitalize with the added pressure and preserved the win.

- It was Haverhals' first game-winning goal of the season and the third of her career.
- BC has won 11 of the last 13 meetings against NU and improve to 16-23-1 in the all-time series, which dates back to 1980. The Eagles are now 8-9 at home against the Huskies.
- The Eagles stay perfect in non-conference action at 10-0. They are 9-0 when scoring first and 6-0 when leading at halftime.
- BC is now 6-2 in one-goal games.
