Former football standout named assistant coach
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College head coach Steve Addazio announced Wednesday that former Boston College standout Ricky Brown has joined the coaching staff as one of the nine full-time assistant coaches. Brown's on-the-field duties will be announced at a later date.
"I am excited and honored to join my Alma Mater on the field as an assistant coach," said Brown. "My time at Boston College as a student-athlete and this past year as Director of Football Initiatives was very special and I can't wait to start this new chapter at BC. I would like to thank Coach Addazio for giving me this opportunity and I am so eager to get started."
Brown spent the 2016 season as Boston College's Director of Football Initiatives.
"We are thrilled to have Ricky join us on the coaching staff," said Addazio. "He was the epitome of a standout student-athlete during his career at BC, a BC man, and I look forward to have him on our staff. It was obvious to see over the last year he was going to be a great young coach and the tremendous influence he will have on our program."
"We wish Coach Washington and his family the best as they return to their native Ohio," added Addazio. "I would like to thank him for all his efforts during his time at BC as he truly made a great impact on our program."
Brown was an outstanding linebacker for the Eagles from 2002-05 and won the 2005 Scanlan Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a BC football player as it recognizes accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
Following his career at BC, Brown signed as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders and spent seven seasons in the NFL.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brown graduated from the Carroll School of Management in 2006 with a degree in finance. He and his wife Brynne, have two children – a daughter Brixton and son Nicholas.
