BC and Rutgers to meet four times beginning in 2019
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College will renew an old eastern football rivalry as the Eagles have agreed to a four-game series with Rutgers, both schools announced Tuesday. Boston College will play at Rutgers on Sept. 21, 2019 while the Scarlet Knights visit Alumni Stadium on Sept. 3, 2022. The Eagles will also host RU on Sept. 12, 2026 while making the return visit to Piscataway, N.J. on Sept 11, 2027.
"We are happy to renew our series with Rutgers and face a team from the Big Ten," said Boston College Director of Athletics Brad Bates. "New Jersey has always been a strong recruiting area for Boston College and we are thrilled to be able to play two future games in the Garden State."
Last season, Boston College had 13 New Jersey natives on the roster as the Eagles finished the season 7-6 and won the Quick Lane Bowl over Maryland. Rutgers ended the 2016 campaign 2-10.
The two teams first met in 1919 and have faced each other 26 times in series history. Both schools were conference foes in the Big East from 1991-2004 before the Eagles joined the ACC in 2005.
Boston College leads the all-time series vs. the Scarlet Knights 19-6-1. BC has not lost to Rutgers since a 20-13 defeat in 1991, the first Big East conference game. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings against Rutgers (12-0-1).
Rutgers is the third Big Ten opponent on Boston College's future football schedules. The Eagles also face Purdue in 2018 and 2020 along with a series against Ohio State (2023 and 2024).
