Towles Named to Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Watch List

The graduate transfer threw 24 touchdowns at Kentucky
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College graduate Patrick Towles was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Watch List, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. announced on Thursday.

The award was established in 1987 and is presented annually to the nation's top college quarterback based on character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments.

Towles came to The Heights after after earning his undergraduate degree from Kentucky. He started 22 games and played in 28 in three years, amassing 5,099 passing yards (427-for-759) with 24 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. He also ran for 353 yards and scored 11 rushing touchdowns. In 2014, the Ft. Thomas, Ky.,native accounted for more than 3,000 yards total offense, joining Tim Couch, Dusty Bonner and Jared Lorenzen as the only players in UK history to top the 3,000-yard mark in first season as a starter. Towles also threw 159 consecutive passes without an interception, the second-longest streak in school history. In 2015, he accounted for nine TDs through the air and five more on the ground, racking up 2,148 passing yards with 14 interceptions and a 56.1 completion percentage.

In 2007, former BC quarterback Matt Ryan was named the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner. He went on to be the highest drafted player in BC history, taken third overall by the Atlanta Falcons. His jersey will be retired on Nov. 19 when the Eagles take on Connecticut.
