Head coach Steve Addazio
Â
On preparing for the season opener against Georgia Tech …
"We're getting ready for Georgia Tech. We have been working on it all summer. We are running the offense – we have installed. Really, Myles Willis has been running the show. He is a little dinged up right now but he is dynamic. We didn't have him here today. We have been working on that. It's been really fun. The guys have really embraced it. Guys like (Tyler) Rouse, Willis. We have starters running that offense right now so that we can mimic the speed (of Georgia Tech)."
Â
On the play of the secondary …
"They all are [standing out]. They are all doing a great job back there. We are have some really athletic guys back there who can run. Obviously, John Johnson is the leader of the secondary. He is a hell of a player and he has a lot of experience. But all of them are good. We have some depth and we have some speed and it's a talented secondary."
Â
On the quarterback play so far …
"It was not very good today, in my opinion. We had a lot of drops, though. We are in the two-week mark of camp and it was like everyone had the ankle weights on today. Everyone was tired and we didn't look crisp. Both quarterbacks [Patrick Towles and Darius Wade] have had a great camp. They have thrown the ball really well and have done a great job. They threw some great passes today, but the consistency at the position – we have bobbled some snaps and were just doing some things today that didn't look good to me."
Â
On Richard Wilson's goal-line touchdowns …
"He ran well on the goal line. He lowered his pads. That's why I wanted him in there. Good, low-pad runner down there. He did a nice job. He and Davon (Jones) doing that – I liked the way they ran down there."
Â
On the emphasis on special teams play in the scrimmage …
"We did a lot of special teams situations: kickoff, kickoff return, punt, punt block, backed-up punt. We want to get as many situations done today as we could. We were out there a long time today. It was a long, long day after a long two weeks."
Â
On the state on injuries on the team …
"Here is the great news: no one got seriously hurt today. That's what makes me feel the best when you get to this Saturday after two weeks. This is the time when you usually have your issues. I shouldn't even say anything … I need wood to knock on."
Â
Â
So. DL Zack Allen
Â
On his two pass knockdowns in the scrimmage … Â
"Coach put me in good positions today, working on some of our third-down packages. He always teaches us to put our hands up. I was lucky to get in that passing lane … That's what Coach Pasqualoni preaches and it really worked out for us today … Truman (Gutapfel) is great at it. He's really helped me work on that part of my game, too. And especially being a middle push guy, he's really been really helpful with that."
Â
On the defensive camaraderie  … Â
"You don't want to let anyone on the defense down. It's really a supportive group and you've got a lot of elite guys who want to jump in and just fit in and not let anyone down."
Â
Â
Sr. DB John Johnson
Â
On the strength of the secondary …
"Our Speed. The biggest thing is that we can run. That helps a lot. We are working on technique and I think that Coach Campanile does a really good job teaching us every day."
Â
On the secondary's pass break-up abilities …
"It's great. On third down, we have to get off the field, especially in situations when you know it's a pass. It's just locking in and working on our technique. It's great to see it's actually paying off.
Â
On the keys to remaining a top defense in the nation …
"We need to keep competing at practice. We came up short a lot of times and competing at practice, getting better and getting game-ready at practice."
Â
On preseason camp …
"I am a senior now so I have been through it a couple of times. I feel good, though, and my body is feeling good. I am just trying to be a leader for the younger guys."
Â
On the relationship of the veteran DBs …
"I think that we all bonded together. I think that Gabe (McClary) and Kam Moore have really stepped up as leaders too. I just try to set a good example. I just try to lead by example."
Â
Gr. QB Patrick Towles
Â
On his 50+ yard rush early in the game … Â
"I wouldn't say that I'm fast, but deceptive and people take bad angles. I'll take all the advantages I can get. It's a read: you just read that backside backer. If he goes with the back, I pull it. If he hangs, then I hand it off. I'd much rather give it to a running back to run it since that's what they're supposed to do, but sometimes you have to make a play."
Â
On Tyler Rouse's 45-yard receiving TD … Â
"He's a very good player. It's going to be great because we can put him out there in empty and he does really well in space. The more we can get the ball in his hands, the better. And we saw that today: he made a great play and took it to the house."
Â
On his two goal line incomplete passes … Â
"I missed Bobby (Wolford) in the back corner. I've just got to be sharper. There's no excuse for that. I've got to make those throws, and I will. I have no doubt that I'll make those throws. I'll just keep going to work. I'll work with Tommy (Sweeney) and Bobby on those and we'll make them when we have to."
Â
On what he wants to accomplish at BC this year … Â
"I just want to win football games. That's all I care about. I want to win the first one. We're working on what we can to get a good product for Ireland. We leave a week from Tuesday so we're kind of in crunch time. But I've got no doubt that we're going to be ready to go."
Â
On his relationships with Steve Addazio and Scot Loeffler … Â
"They recruited me to come here. They had dinner with my family at my house. So Coach Addazio is a guy I want to play for. Coach Loeffler is a guy I want to play for. The people that I know care about me, and it makes it way easier to go out there and put it all on the line for them."
Â
On Richard Wilson's strength on the goal line … Â
"He's a big back for us and he runs like it, too. A lot of times you get those big backs who run like they weigh 180 pounds. So Rich is big and he knows it. And he ran well. (On a goal line situation) they're going to be put everybody in the box and there are only so many guys we can block. They're always going to have that one free hitter so it's that back's job to miss or run through them. And Rich did that today."
