Meet the 2016-17 Eagles: Mike Merulla
July 18, 2016 | Men's Hockey
Merulla will join head coach Jerry York's largest incoming class under his tenure as the Eagles usher in seven forwards, four defensemen and two netminders.
Incoming forward Michael Merulla adds some size to this year's crop of forwards following a fruitful season in the North American Hockey League and British Columbia Hockey League as an amateur.
Â
The Kennett Square, Pa., native found the back of the net 24 times in 48 games for the Aston Rebels of the NAHL in 2015-16 and added 31 assists for a 55-point season. In eight playoff appearances, Merulla notched three goals and as many assists that year. Merulla's 55-point campaign in 2015-16 was a team best as Aston went on to win the East Division regular season championship as well as the East Division playoffs.
Â
Prior to his time in the NAHL, the 6-foot-0 right winger spent most of his time between Surrey and Coquitlam of the BCHL. Following a three-game stint with the Madison Capitals (United States Hockey League), the 194-pounder played in 33 contests in 2014-15 in Coquitlam and notched 17 points (3-14-17) along the way.
