The Eagles welcome local veterans to campus
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - On Thursday, the Boston College baseball team spent the afternoon with local veterans as part of an effort to honor current and former military for the Fourth Annual Wounded Warrior Project Game.
The Eagles played softball on Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field with veterans and then held a barbecue. The group filled backpacks to send to Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., for returning military, complete with hand-written notes from the players and veterans.
After dinner, Wounded Warrior Project's Sal Gonzalez, retired US Marine, spoke about his experiences in combat and returning home. As music is a central part of his life and recovery, he sang to the group as well.
The Eagles will host the Fourth Annual Warrior Project Game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Pellagrini Diamond against Virginia Tech. Pregame ceremonies will honor military members.
