KEY PLAY
The Eagles and Tigers took the game into extras and in the bottom of the 10th inning with two outs, Seth Beer hit a walk-off home run to give Clemson the win.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles were first to get on the board, scoring one in the first. Senior Joe Cronin and Strem notched back-to-back base hits to put runners on first and third with one out. Casey plated Cronin with a stand-up double to right. With runners on second and third, Clemson starter Alex Eubanks got the next two BC batters out on Ks.
- BC added a run the next inning to go up by two as Maselli led off with a double to right center. Eubanks came back with two Ks but Palomaki laced one up the middle to score Maselli from second before a groundout ended the inning.
- Clemson scored in the seventh as Eli White hit a home run over the left-field wall with one down in the inning. Junior righty Justin Dunn came in to relieve Stevens and after giving up a base hit, he forced a fly ball and then got a strikeout to get the Eagles out of the inning.
- The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the ninth to force extras. After Dunn got the first out swinging, Robert Jolly hit one right back at him for a single. With the hit and run on, White knocked a base hit up the middle to put Tigers on the corners and Chris Williams tallied an infield single to second to plate pinch runner K.J. Bryant as the tying run. Dunn forced an infield fly for the second out before giving up a base hit to Chase Pinder through the right side. White tried to score from second but right fielder Casey fired home and junior catcher Nick Sciortino made the tag at the plate to send the game to the 10th.
- While the Eagles got a runner to third in the 10th, they could not get a run across to take a lead. With two down in the inning against closer Alex Bostic, Strem reached on an infield single. He moved up on a wild pitch and junior Johnny Adams got him to third on an error by third baseman Adam Renwick. Sciortino battled, but grounded out to short for the final out of the inning.
- Senior John Nicklas came in to pitch the bottom of the inning for BC and got two quick outs but Beer hit a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence to give Clemson the victory.
