BC HIGHLIGHTS & GAME NOTES
- David Cotton scored his third power play goal of the season, which is second best on the club behind Colin White (5). Half of Cotton's tallies have come via the extra man.
- Julius Mattila netted his first-career power play goal Saturday night in South Bend. The Finnish product also assisted on Cotton's power play goal for his third-career multi-point performance and first since the UConn game on Nov. 22.
- Boston College scored a pair of power plays in the first period at Notre Dame on Saturday night. It marks only the second time the Eagles' have turned that trick, doing so against Colorado College on the first period of the home opener on Oct. 21 (Colin White & Casey Fitzgerald).
- Saturday's setback marked Boston College's first loss in Hockey East play of the season. Its first in 10 outings.
GOAL DESCRIPTIONS
FIRST GOAL - FIRST PERIOD – David Cotton – 6:18 – POWER PLAY
• Boston College picked up the first power play of the game after Andrew Oglevie went off for hooking at 5:56 and David Cotton made the Irish pay 22 seconds later. Julius Mattila got the puck in down low on the near side to Christopher Brown and he took his chance on ND netminder Cal Petersen. The original shot was blocked but the carom kicked out to the right post and Cotton was in position to roof the rebound at 6:18 for the 1-0 lead.
SECOND GOAL - FIRST PERIOD – Julius Mattila – 13:07 – POWER PLAY
• The Eagles' power play unit continued to roll as Julius Mattila snuck a puck through heavy net presence at 13:07 to build the 2-0 lead. Connor Moore worked the cycle and backhanded the puck down to Brown behind the net. Brown kept working the cycle and provided Jul. Mattila with the puck along the far wall. Jul. Mattila tossed the puck at the net and it found its way through traffic and past Petersen for the second power play strike of the first period and a two-goal lead.
THIRD GOAL - SECOND PERIOD – Anders Bjork – 9:16 – POWER PLAY
• Notre Dame cut into the BC lead with a power play tally of its own at 9:16 of the second period. After a 4-on-4 situation subsided and gave way to an Irish power play. Connor Hurley connected with Anders Bjork at the top of the right circle. Bjork took one stride and sniped it through traffic top shelf to make it a 2-1 game.
FOURTH GOAL - SECOND PERIOD – Andew Oglevie – 14:57 – EVEN STRENGTH
• The Fighting Irish tied it up with about five minutes to go in the second on a funky bounce in front. Cam Morrison tossed the puck in deep and Jake Evans won a scrum of the wall. The puck shot out to the goal mouth to Andrew Oglevie's tape and he quickly deposited it past Jospeh Woll at 14:57 to make it a 2-2 affair.
FIFTH GOAL - SECOND PERIOD – Anders Bjork – 17:30 – SHORT HANDED
• Notre Dame's Dylan Malmquist was whistled for illegal use of handling the puck with his hands put the Irish turned it into their first lead of the night with a Bjork short-handed tally. Bjork stripped the Eagles' power play set on the near wall, raced it towards Woll, stopped and ripped it past him with the wrister in tight at 17:30 for the 3-2 ND advantage.

BC will look to get revenge on Quinnipiac, the team that bounced Boston College from the Frozen Four last season on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 4:30 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 30, BC will take on either Ferris State or Robert Morris.
