HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Virginia Tech's starter LHP Packy Naughton retired the first 17 batters faced, junior Gabriel Hernandez tallied the Eagles' first hit with a single in the sixth. Palomaki kept it going in the seventh, leading off with a base hit to center. Sophomore Johnny Adams moved him into scoring position on a sac bunt and Butera plated him with a double to the corner in right.
- Dunn came in to pitch the ninth and walked Alex Perez to start the inning. Hayden hit a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence to lift the Hokies over the Eagles, 2-1.
