- Sophomore Michael Strem led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 day, scoring two runs, driving one in. He also notched his 16th double of the season.
- Sophomore Johnny Adams singled in the second and walked in the ninth. He has a hit in 10 of the last 12 games, including the last four games and has reached base safely in the last 10.
- Freshman Jake Palomaki singled to start the game, extending his on-base streak to 27 games.
- Senior Blake Butera went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and was hit by a pitch, bringing his career total to 25, which is sixth in BC record books.
- Sophomore Nick Sciortino tied his career high with three RBIs, doubling in the first to bring in three.
KEY PLAYS
- The Eagles took a 5-0 lead in the first, getting to URI starter Ben Wessel early. When the Rams attempted to make a run, scoring four in the third and fourth, BC went back on the attack, adding two more in the seventh.
- Murphy shutout down the Rams, retiring 11 of the 12 batters he faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles started early, notching five runs in the first. Palomaki led off with a single to center and moved to third on a grounder and wild pitch. Butera knocked him in with a single through the left side for the first run of the game. Two more base hits loaded the bases and junior Logan Hoggarth grounded one to short. Shortstop Tim Caputo bobbled the ball, allowing a run to come in and all runners to be safe. Sciortino cleared the bases with a double to right center, giving the Eagles a 5-0 lead.
- BC added a run in the second as Adams notched a one-out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when Butera doubled to center.
- The Rams got on the board in the third, scoring three runs. Senior left-handed starter Nick Poore put two on with one out on two walks and gave up a single to Chris Hess to score URI's first run. Martin Taveras followed with a double to left to make it 6-3. Poore picked off Taveras for the second out and then ended the inning with three straight strikes.
- URI scored a run in the fourth to climb within two. Nick DeRegis led off with an infield single to short and stole second. He moved to third on a chopper back to the mound and Jordan Powell grounded out to score him.
- The Eagles got the lead up to four with two outs in the seventh. Butera was hit by a pitch and the Rams went to the pen for RHP Matt Ferraiolo. Strem doubled off the wall in center to score Butera, who had stolen second to move into scoring position. Freshman Donovan Casey followed with another double off the wall in left to plate Strem. LHP Dom Grillo entered the game and got a grounder to third to end the inning.
