- Sophomore Johnny Adams was one of only two BC batters to tally a hit in the game. He has a hit in nine of the last 11 games, including all three games against the Tar Heels, and has reached base safely in the last nine.
- Sophomore RHP Justin Dunn pitched three scoreless innings of relief. He did not allow a hit, walked one, hit one and struck out two.
The Heels got on the board in the second with a two-run homer and didn't look back. A two-out error in the third which extended the inning, eventually allowing in three more runs helped, along with an eight-inning shutout performance by starter RHP Benton Moss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Heels got on the board with two runs in the second. Junior left-handed starter Jesse Adams gave up a lead-off walk and then surrendered a home run to left center to Korey Dunbar to make it a 2-0 game. After another walk and sacrifice bunt, Adams settled in with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.
- UNC added three runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Brian Miller led off with a base hit and Landon Lassiter tallied a one-out single to put two on. With two down, Dunbar grounded one to third and Palomaki misplayed it, allowing a run to come in. A walk loaded the bases and Logan Warmoth singled to left center to plate two more Tar Heels. Adams got a fly ball to get out of the inning.
- The Heels tacked on a sixth run with a lead-off home run off the bat of Tyler Ramirez in the fifth.
