·Freshmen Scott Braren and Jake Palomaki launched their first career home runs as part of a four home run performance by the Eagles. It was the first career start for Braren.
· Junior Joe Cronin was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI, extending his on-base streak to 13 games.
KEY PLAYS
· The Minutemen led, 1-0, midway through the sixth, but the Eagles stormed back, scoring seven in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. BC did not look back, tacking on four more in the eighth for the win.
· The Eagles pitching staff combined to allow just four hits and two walks in the victory, throwing eight scoreless innings. Stone, Rapp, redshirt junior LHP Tyler Hinchliffe and freshman RHP Trevor Massey combined for 11 strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The Minutemen scored one in the first to take an early lead. Stone hit Bryce Maher, the first batter of the game. He moved to second on a sac bunt and third on a wild pitch. Rob McLam drove him in with a groundout to third.
·The Eagles took the lead in the sixth with two outs, scoring five runs on five hits and three walks. With the sixth UMass pitcher on the mound, RHP Bailey Train, senior Blake Butera led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Train retired the next two batters he faced before surrendering a four-pitch walk to freshman Donovan Casey. Cronin singled through the left side to plate Butera and tie the game at one. A pitch off the plate scored Casey to put the Eagles on top and Cronin moved all the way to third. Sophomore Nick Sciortino doubled to right center to score Cronin before Braren blasted one over the right-field. After sophomore Johnny Adams drew a walk and stole second, Palomaki launched one of his own over the left-center fence to put BC up, 7-1. Butera came back up to hit and singled, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double to end the inning.
· The Eagles added four more in the eighth on two more two-run bombs. With a man on and LHP Evan Mackintosh on the hill, Butera launched his first of the season over the left-field fence to put BC up, 9-1. After Strem tallied his fourth hit, a single to left, junior Chris Shaw blasted a no-doubter to right, his eighth of the season.
