He retired the first nine batters he faced before allowing seven hits, four runs - all earned - and two walks. Sophomore RHP Justin Dunn earned his third save, pitching a 123 ninth, striking out one.
- Junior Joe Cronin knocked an RBI single in the single in the second. He has reached base in the last 11 games and tied a season-long six-game hit streak.
- Junior Stephen Sauter went 2-for-3 with an RBI, walk and run to lead the Eagles in the batters' box. He reached base in his first three at bat.
KEY PLAYS
- The Eagles took an early 4-0, but the Blue Devils climbed back in to trail by one in the fifth. BC was able to score one in the bottom of the inning to take a two-run lead, but Duke answered with a run in the sixth.
- BC relievers - juniors LHP Jesse Adams and RHP John Nicklas, along with Dunn -held the Blue Devils scoreless, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out three for the rest of the game to give the Eagles the 5-4 win and the series sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles scored four in the second to take an early lead. Freshman Donovan Casey led off with a bunt single and sophomore Nick Sciortino followed with this third double of the series. With runners on second and third, junior Logan Hoggarth grounded out to second to plate BC's first run. Sauter scored Sciortino with a base hit through the right side. Sophomore Johnny Adams drew a walk and freshman Jake Palomaki singled to load the bases before the Blue Devils went to the pen for RHP Sarkis Ohanian. Cronin chopped one through the left side to score BC's third run and sophomore Michael Strem plated the final run of the inning with a sac fly to right.
- Duke tallied a run in the fourth as Andy Perez led off with a double to right center before Gorman got the first out with a strikeout. Mike Rosenfeld shot one off the back of the mound to score Perez from second. BC got out of the inning with a 63 double play.
- The Blue Devils pulled within one in the fifth, scoring two more. Duke loaded the bases on two walks and a single. BC turned a 136 double play for the first two outs, but a run came home. Kenny Koplove singled through the left side to score the second Duke run. After allowing another single, Gorman got a fly ball to end the inning.
- BC scored in the bottom of the inning to go up, 5-3. Junior Chris Shaw tallied a one-out single to right and moved to third when a ball off Casey's bat went through first baseman Justin Bellinger's legs. Shaw scored on a wild pitch.
- Duke made it a one-run game again in the next inning as Mike Rosenfeld led off with a single to right. With one down, Cris Perez doubled off the wall in left center to score Rosenfeld but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.
- Adams relieved Gorman in the seventh and allowed just one hit, striking out one. Nicklas came in in the eighth and allowed a hit while also tallying a K before Dunn finished off the game in the ninth.
