BC HIGHLIGHTS
·Junior RHP John Nicklas pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits and striking out one. The right-handed reliever has not allowed a run in his last six appearances - 7.0 innings. He's given up four hits, one walk and struck out five in that span.
· Sophomore Michael Strem and junior Logan Hoggarth led the way with 2-for-3 outings. Hoggarth and sophomore Nick Sciortino recorded BC's RBIs.
KEY PLAYS
· The Cardinals scored two in the third and two in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead and while the Eagles tried to climb back into the game, they could not muster enough runs.
·In the eighth and ninth, BC had runners on, but the Cardinals were able to turn double plays to quell BC's comeback hopes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·Louisville scored two in the third after sophomore RHP Justin Dunn retired the first six batters he faced. With a man on first, Mike White doubled to right to score the first run of the game. After another single, Nick Solak singled to left to score White, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Dunn got out of the inning on a fly ball.
· The Cardinals added two more in the fourth, scoring one on three singles. With one down and runners at the corners, Devin Hairston hit a sac fly to center to score the second run. Dunn, backing up first, fired centerfielder Strem's ball to second to get the runner trying to tag up to end the inning.
·The Eagles got two back in the seventh as Strem and junior Joe Cronin started the inning with back-to-back singles. Freshman Donovan Casey chopped one off the mound for a fielder's choice and moved into second on a wild pitch. Hoggarth came through with a single through the left side for the Eagles' first run of the game. Sciortino followed with a base hit to score Casey before Louisville went to the pen for RHP Sean Leland, who retired the next two to end the inning.
·The Cardinals scored a run in the bottom of the inning off new pitcher sophomore RHP Mike King. With two outs, King surrendered a hit to White, who moved into scoring position with a stolen base. Sutton Whiting plated him with a single to right. First baseman Cronin ended the inning with a diving catch on a fast-falling liner.
