BC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
• Boston College has won 11-consecutive games marking the first time the Eagles have done that since the 2013-14 season when BC won 11-straight from Jan. 17 to Feb. 21.
• The Eagles 2-0 deficit in the opening period was the first time Boston College trailed by two goals since the RPI loss on Oct. 11.
• Matthew Gaudreau recorded his first-career three-point performance with three assists in Saturday's victory. The Carneys Point, N.J. native is on a career-best eight-game point streak, accounting for three goals and nine assists over the course of his tear. Gaudreau is tied for fourth on the team in scoring.
• Boston College has scored six goals in all three outings against RIT.
• Ryan Fitzgerald recorded his third two-goal performance of the season and accounted for the game-winning marker on Saturday afternoon against RIT. R. Fitzgerald has scored three game-winning goals this season and nine for his career.
TURNING POINT
• RIT scored within a minute 29 seconds apart to take an early 2-0 lead, but a tally 10 seconds later from Chris Brown cut the Tigers' lead in half quickly. Ryan Fitzgerald took matters into his own hands and scored a pair of goals at 11:21 and 15:53 of the first frame to put the Eagles ahead for good.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Boston College attacked RIT's Mike Rotolo from all angles, firing about 10 shots in his direction in the early goings. Rotolo crafted a couple great saves and the Tigers used that momentum and turned it into a 2-0 lead within a minute and 29 seconds midway through the first period.
Brady Norris chipped a puck out of the far corner and Abbott Girduckis scooped in with speed and raced it through the Eagles' zone. With Scott Savage and Teddy Doherty on the flanks, Girduckis had ample room and snapped it past Thatcher Demko at 8:08 of the first period to make it a 1-0 game.
Erik Brown doubled up RIT's advantage on a wire from the left dot. Brad Shumway pushed up a pass from Myles Powell in transition and gave RIT a 3-on-2 advantage. Brown corralled the pass and netted it at 9:37 for the two-goal lead.
Just as quickly as RIT built an edge, the Eagles started building towards claiming the lead 10 seconds later.
At 9:47 of the first, immediately off the draw, Austin Cangelosi created a touch pass to Colin White in the neutral zone and Christopher Brown raced alongside White down the right seam. White pulled his defender below the post and slipped a perfect pass to Brown on the other side to cut RIT's lead in half, 2-1.
A minute and a half later, Scott Savage blasted it through traffic, capping off a great cycle generated by Matthew Gaudreau and Colin White. White and Gaudreau confounded the Tigers' defense behind the net and Savage worked himself free at the top of the circles. Gaudreau provided Savage with the puck and Ryan Fitzgerald parked himself in the slot to redirect it right past Rotolo at 11:21 to tie it up.
Before the first period came to a close, the Eagles grabbed their first lead of the game on a snipe by Ryan Fitzgerald in the left circle. White and Gaudreau worked their magic again to create the scoring play. White won a draw to Rotolo's left in RIT's zone and pushed it ahead to the backboards. Gaudreau cut into the seam and tapped off White's feed to the front of the goalmouth. Gaudreau connected with R. Fitzgerald in the left circle and he roofed it at 15:53 to take a 3-2 lead.
After outshooting RIT, 17-5, in the first frame, the Eagles continued to buzz around the net and Alex Tuch made it a 4-2 contest at 5:33 of the second period. Boston College possessed with the line of Adam Gilmour – Zach Sanford – Tuch and the trio put together a tic-tac-toe play in front of the net. Gilmour scooted it out to Sanford on the far post and Tuch sailed down the middle seam and quickly snapped Sanford's past to the top of the cage.
Midway through the second stanza, Boston College was afforded its third power play of the game after a Liam Kerins hold at 13:20 and Ian McCoshen made the Tigers pay at 14:09. Sanford kicked it up the wall to Doherty on the blue line. With ample room, Doherty set McCoshen up with the one-timer along the blue line and McCoshen unloaded on the puck, blasting it to the back of the net on the power play for a 5-2 lead.
Casey Fitzgerald added the Eagles second power play strike of the night at 16:09 of the third period on great cycling from Gaudreau and Brown. Brown won a battle behind the net and connected with Gaudreau on the half wall. With the extra space, Gaudreau hit C. Fitzgerald for the one-timer to cap the 6-2 victory.
