Boston College improved to 2-0 as the Eagles defeated Maine, 55-48, on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum. BC will host Holy Cross on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Kelly Hughes led Boston College with 13 points, including four key foul shots at the end of the game.
- Redshirt freshman Ella Awobajo had six points and nine rebounds.
- Sophomore Katie Quandt had nine points and three boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC took an early 11-5 lead behind three straight three's from Kelly Hughes. A three-pointer from Nicole Boudreau extended the Eagles lead to 14-5. Maine cut the first period lead to 14-7 on a last second layup by Christina Gerostergiou.
- Maine cut into the BC lead with some hot shooting as the Black Bears hit 8-for-14 from the floor in the period. BC held a two point lead on a layup by Emilee Daley with 30 seconds to play in the half.
- Maine opened the third period on a 9-3 run sparked by Sigi Koizar's layup to give the Black Bears its largest lead, 33-29, with 5:32 to play. In that run, BC had a turnover and missed two layups and a three-pointer. Maine's lead extended to seven points on a three by Liz Wood. A Steph Jones three sparked a 7-0 run for BC and the game was tied, 38-38, going into the final period.
- BC opens up the period with an 8-0 run to go up 46-38. Marti Mosetti had four points in the run. Two freebies from Maine's Chantel Charles stopped the BC run. Maine put together a 6-3 to cut BC's lead to 50-46 with 1:41 left in the game. A steal by Nicole Boudreau gave BC the ball. Katie Quandt was fouled with 46.1 second to play. She hit one foul shot to extend the Eagles lead, 51-46. Koizar cut the lead on a back screen layup, 51-48. Marti Mosetti was fouled by Maine and on her foul shot, Alexa Coulombe grabbed the rebound. Maine then fouled Hughes and nailed two foul shots. Mosetti then stole the long pass which sent Hughes to the line again to seal the win.

GAME NOTES
- Boston College started Ella Awobajo, Katie Quandt, Martina Mosetti, Nicole Boudreau and Kelly Hughes for the second consecutive game.
- BC shot 4-for-5 from long range in the first half. Kelly Hughes was 3-for-3 in the first period, while Nicole Boudreau hit the fourth three of the period. BC did not hit one shot from long range in the second period. Maine went 2-for-14 in the first half (14.3%) from the three-point line.
- The second half the two teams continued to shoot from the three-point arc. Maine went 3-for-12 from long range while BC was 2-for-11 from the three-point line.
- RS-Freshman Ella Awobajo had a career-high nine boards.
- The BC bench outscored Maine, 16-4. Freshman Mariella Fasoula had eight points and five boards coming off the bench.
