Meet Mariella Fasoula
November 11, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Freshman center ready for the 2015-16 season.
The BC women's basketball team has made an effort to recruit internationally. Last year the team added Italian native Marti Mosetti and Nigeria native Ella Awobajo. This year the team welcomes from Greece, Mariella Fasoula. Her teammates call her "Fas" and she will command much of the attention down low. At 6-foot-4, Fas is a true center and will combine with sophomore Katie Quandt to give BC a considerable force in the paint this season. Fans meet Mariella Fasoula …
Why did you choose Boston College?
I chose Boston College due to its high academic reputation and great basketball that is in one of the top conferences. I feel that getting an excellent education while playing basketball at the highest level is one of the greatest opportunities that I have been offered.
Â
Give us a summary of your game for the BC fans –
I am a center so I would have to say that I have an inside game. I post up and play 1 vs. 1, look for smart passes, cut hard, play defense and crash the boards. I do anything I can to help my team in any way possible.

What has been the toughest adjustment for you since your arrival on campus – academics or on the court – or both?
I think the hardest thing that I had to adjust to is the time management. We are on the court for so many hours during the day practicing hard and doing what we love but then we have to balance it out and study as much as the regular student. To make it work I had to organize my day before hand and get used to it. I got to the realization that there is time throughout the day to finish my responsibilities. I just had to be more organized.
Do you have a favorite day or tour you'll never forget while on the teams August trip to Italy?
My favorite day had to be the one with the Amazing Race around Italy. It's a funny story because we were tourists that had to follow specific instructions that would lead us to monuments and churches. My team decided to rent a golf cart, thinking that we would be faster and win. The only thing that went wrong was that our teammate understood that we shouldn't follow the purple roads as shown on the maps or we would get in trouble. Eventually, after three hours of driving around the streets of Italy avoiding the roads that our teammate told us to which made it super difficult we arrived at the hotel only to be told that we were supposed to follow the purple roads because they were there to help us reach each monument. Shout out to Martina Mosetti!

Name two people who have been very influential in your success and why?
I would have to say my parents; they go as a package deal. They have always been there for me throughout my basketball successes and failures. They never stopped taking me to practice or coming to my games and they kept pushing me and encouraging me when I most needed it. To be honest, all of what I am offered now would have never happened without the continuous support from my parents, and for that I am forever grateful.
Â
What is your favorite pregame meal?
Before games I usually like to eat pasta, chicken and some sort of vegetable or salad.
Â
What music do you listen to get you going?
I listen to music that gets me pumped up. For now the one I have to listen before games or practice is Jumpman. The songs are mostly categorized as rap or R&B. I like fast music with a beat to it, it gets my adrenaline flowing and my intensity increasing.
Â
It's early but what is your favorite spot on campus –
It is early in the year still to have a favorite spot because I have not explored each spot. I feel that different times mean different places. I like to study in the lockeroom because it is quiet and has a big space. I like to hang out at lower campus and in the rooms of my teammates that live down here instead of going to upper campus! The campus is huge though; I will eventually find my special spot!
