Eagles Tie No. 3 Florida State, 2-2, in Overtime

Hayley Dowd and McKenzie Meehan scored second half goals as the Boston College women's soccer team tied No. 3 Florida State, 2-2, in double-overtime on the road. BC is now 5-3-2 in the ACC and will finish sixth in the conference standings. Florida State finished with a 6-1-2 and finished second.
BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Hayley Dowd scored in the second half to tie the match at 1-1. It was her 12th goal of the season.
- Junior McKenzie Meehan scored on a penalty kick to tie the game with four minutes to play in the match. It was her ACC leading sixth goal of the season.
- Alexis Bryant had six saves in the match.
- Elin Jenson gave Florida State a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute off a rebound in front of the goal. Off a corner, BC's Hayley Dowd blocked a shot by Natalia Kuikka. The ball landed on Cheyna Williams touched the ball into the box and Jenson one-timed the ball through the crowd of players in front of the goal.
- The Eagles tied the game in the 47th minute in the match on Hayley Dowd's 12th goal of the season. Dowd stole the ball off a lazy pass from a FSU defender and broke in on FSU goalkeeper Cassie Miller alone. Dowd calmly placed the ball from 11 yards out to the far corner under Miller's attempt to dive for the ball.
- FSU took the lead with less than five minutes on a goal by Megan Connolly. Off a throw in, Connolly received the ball from Natalia Kuikka in the middle of the box. Her first touch was with her right foot, and she put it on her left foot and placed it in the top corner for a 2-1 lead.
- A minute later, Hayley Dowd was dropped in the box when she received a header off McKenzie Meehan. Dowd was kicked in the back of the leg and had to leave the match. BC was awarded a penalty kick and McKenzie Meehan stepped up and tied the match with less than four minutes to play in the match.
"I thought our girls played very organized and with a lot of determination today against a very good Florida State team,'' said BC head coach Alison Foley. "Not many people come down here and get a point so we are pleased with the performance and the result.''
GAME NOTES
- BC's goal by Hayley Dowd was only the third goal scored all season on the FSU defense in the second half. New Mexico and Louisville are the only other teams to have scored in the second half against FSU.
- FSU has only given up two goals one other time this season (vs. Florida, L 3-2, Aug. 30). BC is the only ACC team to scored two goals against FSU this season.
- The Eagles had four shots on goal, while FSU had 10.
- McKenzie Meehan has 16 goals this season. She is 5-for-5 on penalty kicks this season. In the last three games, Meehan has scored on three penalty kicks. In the last four games, Meehan has compiled five goals, three assists for 13 points. Meehan leads the league in points scored (35) and goals (16).
- Hayley Dowd scored her fifth goal in the last four games for the Eagles. She has compiled five goals and one assist for 12 points in the last four games. BC is 2-1-1 in the last four games. Dowd finished the regular season fourth in the ACC in points scored (26) and third in goals scored with 12.
- This was BC's sixth overtime game of the season. The team has gone into overtime in the last three games. BC defeated Wake Forest (2-1, 2OT), Miami (5-4, OT) and FSU (2-2, 2OT). BC is now 5-3-2 in the ACC.
