• Six different Eagles logged a point in the exhibition bout.
• Miles Wood scored his first goal as an Eagle while Scott Savage found the back of the net for the first time since his freshman season.
• Thatcher Demko stopped all 16 shots faced as Boston College's starter only played the first period of the game.
• University of New Brunswick defeated the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Thursday, Oct. 1, 5-3, prior to Saturday's exhibition and is now 5-0 in its exhibition trials. The Varsity Reds have outscored their opponents, 30-13, in those five outings.
TURNING POINT
New Brunswick's Francis Beauvillier scored a power play goal at 9:31 of the second period to cut into Boston College's lead, 2-1. UNB's Christopher Caissy scored 18 seconds later on the ensuing draw and the Varsity Reds exploded for a five-goal second period and never looked back.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles were getting outshot early on, but Boston College benefitted from a breakout play midway through the first period generated by freshman Jeremy Bracco. Bracco corralled a pass from junior Austin Cangelosi at the blue line and needled the puck through a defensemen back to Cangelosi on the doortstep. Cangelosi triggered and Marcoux made the original stop, but first-year forward Miles Wood was in position to roof the rebound at 9:01.
After three-consecutive Boston College infractions, UNB's Cameron Brace committed an interference call with a minute left in the first period. Teammate Dylan Willick followed him into the box 27 seconds into the second stanza and the Eagles took advantage of the 5-on-3 situation. With plenty of room, the puck kicked off of Colin White's stick to Adam Gilmour down on the low post. Gilmour popped it out to Scott Savage in the slot and Savage picked his spot on Marcoux 58 seconds into the second period to take a 2-0 lead.
After a Casey Fitzgerald high-sticking call at 7:44 of the second period, the Varsity Reds' Francis Beauvillier wristed a power play goal past Chris Birdsall at 9:31 to spark a five-goal frame for the visitors. Christopher Caissy tied it 18 seconds later and Peter Trainor (12:24 – PP), Rob Mignardi (15:41 – EV) and Trainor (16:47 – PP) capped the scoring for the night late in the second period.
Boston College outshot UNB, 10-7, in the third period but could not beat Marcoux.
